Fatal disease: One dead, two diagnosed with dengue fever

FAISALABAD: An 11-year-old boy succumbed to dengue fever at Allied Hospital on Monday. Khalid Mehmood, 30, and his son Yasir, residents of Madinabad ABC Road, were brought to Allied Hospital on Saturday.
They were both running a high fever. Doctors ran some tests and diagnosed them with dengue fever. They were admitted to the hospital for treatment but Yasir breathed his last on Sunday night. Doctors said his father?s condition was serious.
Allied Hospital Medical Superintendent Rashid Maqbool said, ?Yasir had chronic bone marrow disease and was being treated for tuberculosis as well.?

KARACHI: A four-year-old boy suffering from dengue fever died at a hospital, shocking health official as it was the first dengue death in a wintry month since the deadly virus surfaced in the city in 2005, the provincial health authorities confirmed to Dawn on Thursday.

The patient belonging to a family from the Malir neighbourhood had been admitted to a private hospital early this week.?He was admitted to the hospital on Feb 3 and died the same day because of serious complications,? said an official in the provincial dengue surveillance cell.

He added that there was a slight variation in signs and symptoms of dengue in young and adult victims. ?For instance, they might complain of diarrhoea and gastroenteritis with fever, eating disorder and abdominal pain,? he said.

This year, when February has just started, the figure of confirmed dengue cases has already reached 86, health officials said, while adding that in the last year?s first two months 60 patients had been detected with dengue virus in Sindh. The officials said last year the first death from the virus was reported on May 30.

KARACHI: Five more dengue viral fever cases were reported on Saturday, increasing the number of confirmed cases this year to 136, said Focal Person for Dengue Surveillance Cell Dr Shakeel Aamir Mullick.

Dr Mullick said a total of 146 dengue fever cases had so far been reported in 2014, of which 136 were reported from Karachi, one in Hyderabad and six from the rest of Sindh...

KARACHI: Dengue viral fever claimed another in Karachi on Monday, said Dr M Shakeel Aamir Mullick Focal Person for Dengue Surveillance Cell Sindh. Dr Mullick said a 41-year-old male resident of Baldia Town, Karachi expired on 28th March 2014 and case was reported to Dengue Surveillance Cell on 30th March 2014. He said man was admitted in a hospital from 11th March 2014. He said a total of 154 dengue fever cases had so far been reported in 2014, of which 143 were reported from Karachi, two in Hyderabad and six from the rest of Sindh.

Six people die of dengue fever in 2014

Karachi, Provincial Manager, Dengue Prevention and Control Program Sindh, Dr M Shakeel Aamir Mullick has said six people died of dengue fever in 2014 and 256 dengue viral fever cases were reported in this year so far.

He expressed these views while talking to media men at Neonatal and Child Health (MNCH) Office. Dr Mullick said all six deaths had been reported from Karachi city and last death was reported on 21st May 2014. He said a total of 256 dengue fever cases had been reported in 2014, of which 248 were reported from Karachi, eight from rest of Sindh province. He said few dengue cases were also reported from Balochistan province.

Two more patients were admitted to the dengue cell of Saidu Teaching Hospital on Saturday, taking this year?s dengue count in Swat district to 17.

The focal person for the hospital?s dengue cell, Roshan Ali, said Abdullah and Shaukat Ali, both residents of Sakha Cheena, Amankot, were admitted after they tested positive for the dengue virus.

?At the moment, 11 patients are being treated in the dengue unit set up in Medical Ward B,? said Roshan Ali.

He added around 14 patients from Sakha Cheena have contracted the virus thus far...

Two more patients tested positive for the dengue virus on Saturday, taking Swat district?s dengue count to 25 this year.

The focal person for Saidu Teaching Hospital?s dengue cell, Roshan Ali, told The Express Tribune that 45-year-old Begum and 14-year-old Umair Khan were brought to the hospital and exhibited symptoms of dengue fever. ?Their blood tests confirmed they had contracted the virus,? said Ali.

Out of the 25 patients admitted to STH so far, 21 have been discharged after recovering completely, he added. ?Four patients, including three men and one woman, are being kept in the dengue cell,? said Ali...

The number of dengue victims in Swat went up to 49 on Saturday after two more patients tested positive for the potentially fatal virus.

Fawad Khan, 26 and Haseeba Bibi, 20, were brought to Saidu Teaching Hospital with symptoms of dengue and were admitted after their tests were positive.

Both patients belong to Sethi Mills Mohallah, a village adjacent to Sakha Cheena, the most affected area of the district thus far...
