Between 500 and 600 cases of measles were reported from different areas of Karachi over the last few weeks and the number of children affected from the potentially deadly, airborne viral disease was on the rise, but provincial health authorities either remained oblivious to the alarming situation or were hiding the facts, medical experts stated on Thursday...

Pakistan will start a vaccination drive next week to stem an outbreak of measles that has killed 193 children this year in the southern province of Sindh.

Eighty seven deaths were reported this month alone, Masood Solangi, the Sindh government?s director of public health, said today in a telephone interview. The vaccines will be sent to the cities of Ghotki, Sukkur, Khairpur, Kashmore, Shikarpur, Larkana and Qambar, he said...

LARKANA/KASHMORE, (SANA): There is rising numbers of death of children in various districts of province due to measles reported death toll reached to 88 among 9 children died within 24 hours in Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Ghotki and other parts of province in the different flood affected areas on Friday.

According to the sources, , death toll reached to 88 children under 5 years due to the measles, spreading fast in different districts of Larkana, Sukkur, Kandhkot-Kashmore, Ghotki, Jacobabad, Sukkur and other parts of Sindh.

About 500 children suffering from measles out of which 88 have already been died of the deadly disease within one and half month...

As many as 15 children have died of measles in the metropolis in 2012, World Health Organisation (WHO) sources confirmed to The News, and alarmingly, the vaccine for the potentially deadly disease was in short supply across the province.

The official WHO sources said the organisation?s Disease Early Warning System was closely monitoring the outbreak in Karachi and the rest of the province, while several other suspected deaths were still under investigation...

Affected families blamed the health department of negligence saying no team of the department came to vaccinate the children...

KANDKOT - A deadly measles outbreak in interior Sindh has left at least 161 children dead in the last 30 days as five more children die of measles.
According to reports gathered from different parts of upper Sindh, including Sukkur, Ghotki, Kandhkot, Thal and Tangwani, five children lost their lives due to the measles virus in the last 24 hours.

Over 300 Pakistani children died of measles in 2012, according to WHO, which blames floods for the epidemic.

More than 300 Pakistani children died of measles last year, a staggering increase on the previous 12 months and a result of three consecutive years of flooding, officials said Tuesday.

The United Nations? World Health Organization said 306 children died of the highly infectious illness last year, 210 of them in the southern province of Sindh, where the worst floods occurred in 2010, 2011 and 2012.

The WHO said 64 children died of measles in Pakistan in 2011, 28 of them in Sindh. It was not immediately able to provide statistics for earlier years. ?Most of the affected children died due to post-measles complications such as pneumonia, post-measles encephalitis and diarrhea,? said WHO spokeswoman Maryam Yunus.

The U.N. body said most of the cases occurred between October and December in northern districts of Sindh, but was unable to provide a breakdown...

Seven more children died of measles in interior Sindh on Tuesday, while more than two dozen were hospitalised after an epidemic hit the area.

Four-year-old Muhammad Ashid and his three-year-old sister Muskan died in Ghundio village near Sakrand, while three-year-old Ramsha died at Goth Lal Bux Brohi. Four-year-old Asifa Seelro in Khuda Bux Seelro, three-year-old Adil in Bagar Ji, two-year-old Shazia in Garam Godi and three-year-old Parhani in Maloi also died as a result of the outbreak...
