16November 2012 Pertussis: According to PAHO/WHO
So far in 2012, there has been an increase in the number of pertussis cases in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Guatemala, Mexico, Paraguay, Venezuela, and the United States of America.

Argentina between weeks 1 and 38 of 2012 reported to the NationalHealth Surveillance (SNVS): 8620 suspected cases of pertussis; an increase over the same period of 2011 of 1.3 times, when 6170 cases were reported.

Columbia: Through week 42 (2012): 9289 cases, 29.2% confirmed, 63.8% discarded and 7.07% are probable cases compared with the 2011 has increased by 228%.

Chile: To week 45 (2012): 5268 cases have been reported across the country, higher than that observed in 2011 and five-year median. The cumulative incidence rate of EW 45 corresponds to 30.3 per hundred thousand inhabitants. The disease mainly affects children under 1 year.
