Given the increase in reported measles cases during 2026 in the Americas Region and in other regions of the world, as well as the holding of mass gatherings with broad international participation, the Pan American Health Organization / World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) urges Member States to prioritize strengthening epidemiological surveillance and vaccination activities, and to ensure a rapid and effective response to suspected measles cases. PAHO/WHO also recommends intensifying active community, institutional, and laboratory-based case-finding efforts for the early identification of cases, as well as implementing supplementary vaccination activities aimed at closing existing immunity gaps.
