WNV has been detected in a Franklin County woman who is now recovering after being hospitalized with meningitis due to WNV. First 2 cases of West Nile Virus detected in humans in Delco
Monday, August 13, 2012

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has confirmed two human cases of West Nile Virus in Delaware County

?They are both males, one 55 and the other 62 years old,? said DEP spokeswoman Amanda Witman.

The condition of the men and their residences were not immediately available, though Witman said they were both hospitalized at one point...

Bucks Co. woman latest West Nile virus case

HARRISBURG, PA.; August 19, 2012 (WPVI) -- Southeastern Pa. is becoming a hot spot for human cases of West Nile virus

Pennsylvania's West Nile Control program says a woman from Bucks County has become the 8th person in the state infected with the mosquito-borne disease.

And 5 of those human cases are in eastern-southeastern Pa. 2 are in Delaware County, 1 in Lehigh, 1 in Bucks, and 1 in Lancaster counties...

HARRISBURG, Pa.?Health officials say an elderly northeastern Pennsylvania man who had contracted West Nile virus has died.

Department of Health spokeswoman Kait Gillis said officials received confirmation of the death of the Luzerne County resident on Monday, but she isn't sure exactly when the victim died. She said he was more than 80 years old.

The commonwealth has recorded 12 human cases of the virus so far this year,...

West Nile virus claims Wilkes-Barre victim

A Wilkes-Barre man died Sunday from complications caused by West Nile virus, making him the first in the state to succumb to the disease since 2008.

It was actually encephalitis, a swelling of the brain sometimes caused by West Nile, that killed the 82-year-old Joseph Krawetz, according to his daughter. But the Pennsylvania Department of Health diagnosed him with the virus on Monday, spokeswoman Kait Gillis said.
