Students' viral illness prompts alert to parents

LEWISBURG -- Five pupils at Kelly Elementary School have come down with Fifth Disease, a mild viral illness common in children that prompted an alert to parents on Friday.

"It's a common virus that can go through a school," Lewisburg Superintendent Mark DiRocco said Saturday.

However, an email notice to parents and guardians of Kelly's 600 pupils and staff members was sent as a precaution for pregnant women or those who may be pregnant, he said...
