Govt falls 'fowl' of poultry ban

BHUBANESWAR: In a major goof up, the government displayed poultry products from various parts of the state at an exhibition at Janata Maidan here despite an ongoing restriction on fowls after the detection of bird flu in January.
The exhibition, which began on Sunday and ended on Wednesday, was held barely a kilometre away from the Central Poultry Development Organization (CPDO) farm at Jaydev Vihar where avian influenza was confirmed. There is a three-month moratorium on stocking, movement and rearing poultry in a three km radius from the CPDO epicenter. After the three-month period ended on March-end, the government is supposed to review the situation before lifting the ban, government sources said.
