As of September 1, 2009, CDC re-zeroed its cumulative case counts and is combining seasonal influenza and pandemic H1N1 case counts. Oregon will follow the same procedure. In Oregon, all influenza-related hospitalizations and deaths are reportable as of September 1, 2009

Between the start of the pandemic in late April and August 31, 2009, there were 116 Oregonians from 11 counties hospitalized with pandemic H1N1 influenza. There were also 12 deaths among Oregon residents.

The numbers in this table represent hospitalizations and deaths from both seasonal and pandemic H1N1 influenza since September 1, 2009:

I'm sorry. I'm confused. I have counted and recounted and I am only coming up with (12) fatalities for Oregon. That correlates with the above posting (highlighted in red). Your post title indicates (13). Can you point me to the 13th death, please? According to the chart, above there are (13) hospitalizations. Could that be the conflict?-k

Well, you are right, I did get the hospitalizations mixed up with the deaths; however, to further confuse the situation, on August 31st there were a total of 12 deaths and 105 hospitalizations. As of September 1st, Oregon reset the numbers to zero and on September 18th reported 1 death and 13 hospitalizations (a second death in Lane County). And finally to really confuse us all, I just checked and there are now two deaths since September 1st, making the total 14. The latest death is the second in Jackson County.

No problem. So, If I understand this correctly, we are adding the 'starting at zero' numbers into our previous count, before they cleared their count and started again. We will continue to show an 'accumulated number'. Oke .. I'll make a note of that on my sheet! -k

Yes, I will continue to keep a cumulative total and am going to add a column for deaths through August 31st.

Just wanted to point this out. Resources are scarce.

Excerpt:

As of Oct. 20, the state reported 70 Jackson County residents hospitalized with one death while Josephine County had 26 hospitalized with four deaths and Klamath County reported 17 had been in the hospital with one death. There have been two critically ill transported to Portland for specialized breathing treatment.
