Influenza activity decreased slightly during Week 5 (Jan. 30 – Feb. 5, 2011) in Oregon. Circulating types/subtypes identified so far this season include influenza B, influenza A/H3, and 2009 H1N1, all of which have been identified by the state laboratory in the past week.
There have been four influenza-associated hospitalizations reported within the Portland Tri-County area during Weeks 4-5. Total (since week 50) is 9.
There have been two influenza-related deaths reported in Oregon so far this season; both deaths occurred in adults during the week of January 16-22, 2011 (Week 3).
Both patients tested positive for 2009 H1N1 influenza.
RSV season began officially in Oregon the week of December 26, 2011-January 1, 2011. RSV percent positivity was 37% for the week ending February 5, 2011.
