Total 1,287 hospitalizations 63 deaths

Week 49:
"Oregon?s death rate for the entire pandemic period (since April, 2009) is 1.9 deaths per 100,000 Oregonians. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimate the national rate of H1N1-related deaths from April ? November 14th to be 3.2 per 100,000.

Females constitute 689 (54%) of hospitalized cases.
Males constitute 59% of influenza deaths.

Nearly 100% of influenza identified at OSPHL this season has been pandemic
H1N1."

Additionally, there appears to be no deaths in age-group 19-24 and the vast majority of hospitalizations had underlying conditions. Charts and graphs on website.

Re: Oregon Week 3 No New Deaths - Total 78

Week 3:
No new deaths; 66 for season; total 78

? One influenza hospitalization and no deaths were reported for the week ending January 23rd.
? Since September 1, 2009, 1,307* patients have been hospitalized with laboratory-confirmed influenza statewide (950 adults; 356 children). Rates of hospitalization are substantially higher among individuals with underlying conditions, including pregnant women, children with neuromuscular disease or seizure disorder, and adults with chronic lung disease or diabetes.
? Since September 1, 2009, sixty-six people have died from influenza (62 adults; 4 children). Of the four pediatric deaths, all had neuro-developmental conditions. Of the 63 deaths for whom information about medical conditions is known, 56 (89%) had one or more underlying conditions.
? Oregon?s death rate for the entire pandemic period (since April, 2009) is 2 deaths per 100,000 Oregonians. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimate the national rate of H1N1-related deaths from April ? December 12th to be 3.7 per 100,000.
? All of our influenza-like illness (ILI) syndromic surveillance systems report low levels of ILI; ILINet rates are significantly below expected for this time of year, and Kaiser Permanente NW ILI levels are also slightly below levels seen in previous seasons.
? Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) in Oregon increased substantially from the previous week; the official start of the RSV season was the week ending January 9th, 2009

Re: Oregon Week 8 -No New Death - Total 79

Re: Oregon Week 8 -No New Death - Total 79

Week 8:

· ILINet rates of influenza-like illness (ILI) 0.4% are significantly below expected for this time of year, and Kaiser Permanente NW ILI levels remain below those observed at the same point in the last two seasons and only slightly above the level observed in the 06-07 season.
· Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) activity in Oregon has steadily increased for past three weeks ending February 27th, 2010. Although activity is high, it is consistent with previous seasons.
· No seasonal influenza viruses have been detected at Oregon State Public Health Laboratory since October, 2009

The number of ILI outpatient visits increased to 7.09 per 1,000 Kaiser members for the week ending February 27, 2010.

With low levels of influenza activity, BRFSS is only updated every other week. We apologize for the delay, but the most recent BRFSS data for the last two weeks ending February 27th are unavailable at the time of publication.
