The Orange County Health Care Agency reported Monday that one more person has died of complications from the H1N1 virus, bringing the local total to 51.
The adult who died suffered from underlying health conditions, said spokeswoman Nicole Stanfield. Of the 50 deaths for whom the health agency has medical history, four had no underlying conditions that are considered risk factors for complications and another four had obesity only. Five children and three pregnant women have died.
The death rate has slowed in the past two weeks, along with illnesses in Orange County and across the state.
Still, vaccinations are available and public health officials urge that people get them. Dr. Mark Horton, head of the state Department of Public Health, said last week he expects another swine flu outbreak will hit this winter.
To make an appointment for a vaccination at the Health Care Agency?s Santa Ana clinic, call 800-564-8448.
