Oregon health officials confirm two cases of measles in Clackamas County household

PORTLAND, Ore. (KTVZ) —Oregon Health Authority and county public health officials said Monday they are investigating two cases of measles in a single Clackamas County household.

One household member, an unvaccinated adult, was confirmed to have measles last Friday. The individual developed a rash on June 11. While the time range of the exposure is believed to be between May 19 and June 4, the specific location of the exposure, which occurred in Marion County, is unknown, suggesting there may be other, unreported measles cases in Oregon.​..

A child in Marion County was confirmed Monday as having measles, Marion County Health and Human Services spokesperson Melissa Gable said Monday afternoon.

The child first showed symptoms on June 11, Gable said. It was not yet known whether the child had been vaccinated or where they were exposed to the measles.

The Oregon Health Authority said Monday it is investigating two confirmed cases of measles in Clackamas County residents who are believed to have been exposed in Marion County between May 19 and June 4.​..

Health officials 'optimistic' community spread is unlikely


PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – At least one measles case in an unvaccinated child has been reported in Multnomah County, officials announced Tuesday morning.

Public health officials say “the child and their family had recently spent time abroad in a country where measles is more common” and has since been taken to “receive care in a healthcare setting while infectious.”​

“Additional cases among unvaccinated individuals within the child’s household are expected,” According to Multnomah County. “However, officials are optimistic that community spread will not occur from this case.”

Earlier this month, two measles cases among unvaccinated children were reported in Marion County. The Oregon Health Authority also reported two people in Clackamas County and one person in Marion County had measles in June 2024.​​..

Marion County health confirms fourth measles case since mid-June

Marion County Public Health officials confirmed a fourth case of measles in the county Wednesday afternoon.

An unvaccinated child was diagnosed with the highly contagious disease on July 16.

The announcement marks the fourth measles case in Marion County since June 17. Public health officials reported two cases on July 12 and another case of a child with measles on June 17.

Marion County Public Health officials said in a prepared statement that staff are in the process of contacting those who may have been exposed, but there was no known public exposure or known connections between the other three cases confirmed in the county...

Ninth measles case, potential Marion County exposure sites announced

People who visited three grocery stores in Keizer and Woodburn on July 17 may have been exposed to measles, the Oregon Health Authority said Friday.

The agency released a statement which also confirmed a ninth measles case in Marion County.

The stores and times of potential exposure are:

Waremart (5450 River Road N., Keizer), between noon and 1:20 p.m., July 17.

Walmart (3002 Stacy Allison Wy., Woodburn), between 1:15 and 2:35 p.m., July 17.

Safeway (1550 N. Pacific Hwy, Woodburn), between 2:40 and 3:05 p.m., July 17.

People who have been in the stores recently should monitor themselves for symptoms of measles and report to a health care provider if they began experiencing symptoms, the agency said.​..

Measles outbreak in Oregon continues to spread
The outbreak of 23 measles cases coincides with spreading cases of whooping cough, which have surpassed 400 this year

​The measles outbreak that started in mid-June in Marion County has spread to at least 23 residents in three counties.

And it’s probably not over.

“We continue to see cases, and we have not been able to connect them all, suggesting that there are other cases out there,” said Dr. Paul Cieslak, the Oregon Health Authority’s medical director and top immunologist.

Only one person in the outbreak has been vaccinated and two people have been hospitalized, the health authority said.

Cases of pertussis or whooping cough also are spreading, with seven cases reported last week, bringing the year’s total to more than 400. The virus has infected people in 13 Oregon counties this year.​..

Oregon health officials said Thursday a Willamette Valley measles outbreak has grown to 25 residents — all unvaccinated.

The outbreak is unusual, despite the highly contagious nature of the disease, in part because it is easily controlled through vaccination. But vaccination rates have declined in recent years, health officials say, leading to repeated outbreaks.​..

...To date, there are 16 cases in Marion County, eight in Clackamas County and one in Multnomah County, according to Dr. Paul Cieslak, medical director at the Oregon Health Authority. Five of those cases involve adults over 20 years old, while the rest are under 20, he said....

Oregon measles outbreak grows to state's largest since 1991

Oregon's measles outbreak is now the largest reported outbreak in the state since 1991, according to data from the Oregon Health Authority.

The number of cases in the state since mid-June increased to 30 as of Sunday, surpassing the last outbreak in 2019 when 28 cases were reported.

This summer's outbreak is centered in Marion County, which has seen 20 cases, with additional cases in Clackamas and Multnomah counties. In 2019, the majority of cases were reported in Multnomah and Clackamas counties.

31 cases confirmed the most in Oregon since 1991

​PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The 31 cases of measles recorded this year in Oregon are the most cases in a generation, according to state health officials.

There have not been this many confirmed cases in the state since 1991, Oregon Health Authority officials said. The first cases were confirmed in June. However, there have not been any new confirmed cases since August 11.​

Of the 31 cases, one was in Multnomah County, nine in Clackamas County and 21 in Marion County. All of those infected were unvaccinated and two were hospitalized. The majority were kids under the age of 10, while another 11 were between the ages of 11-19. Seven adults older than 20 were also infected.

It takes 42 days total — two successive incubation periods without a newly confirmed case — before OHA will declare the outbreak over, they said in a statement to KOIN 6 News...
