Hunger is a growing issue in the world and is inextricably linked to poverty and ill health; a solution? improving food production capacity. However, industrial food production capacity is inextricably linked to machinery that is beyond the means of many in the third and developing world.

I just found the following on ted.com and post this link here in the hope that information referred to in the presentation of this project is spread far and wide to those that need it - well worth watching too!

Re: Open sourced blueprints for civilisation

Fantastic, now that is the kind of thing Nobel prizes should be given for. Economics, Engineering and potentially Peace (World Bank president: 'One shock away from crisis' ).

Link to Open Source Ecology Wiki
Open Source Ecology is a network of farmers, engineers, and supporters that has been imagining and creating the Global Village Construction Set, an open source, low-cost, high performance technological platform. These DIY-fabricated industrial machines can be used to build a sustainable civilization with modern comforts. The GVCS lowers the barriers to entry into farming, building, and manufacturing. It is a life-size lego-like set of modular tools that can create entire economies.
