NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY, Thursday, January 31st, 2013 ? A cluster of suspected cases of a norovirus has been identified on the Restorative Care Unit at Northumberland Hills Hospital (NHH).
NHH is working closely with the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit to identify the virus and communicate information to surrounding health care facilities, including hospitals, retirement residences and long-term care facilities.

15 norovirus outbreaks this winter for Windsor Essex

While the flu season is winding down in Windsor Essex, it?s still the winter season when that nasty norovirus spreads easily including two outbreaks in Windsor last week.
And this winter there is a new strain of norovirus called Sydney but there is no way to tell if it is the one causing vomiting and diarrhea at a retirement and long term care facility in Windsor, Dr. Gary Kirk, associate medical officer of health and CEO of the local health unit, said.

There were nine norovirus outbreaks between Sept. 1 and Dec. 31 and six outbreaks in 2013 in Windsor and Essex County nursing and retirement homes. Five of those 15 outbreaks were confirmed as norovirus; the others didn?t receive the testing needed to identify them.
