An area long-term care facility is currently battling a virus outbreak.
Several residents and staff at the Belmont Long Term Care facility have fallen prey to an enteric noro virus outbreak discovered at the facility last month.
Officials at the Bridge Street East seniors' residence remain tight-lipped about the number of people infected, but revealed that ill residents have been isolated and sick staff have been sent home.
"We are managing it well," said Melana Selske, the director of care at the facility. "Public health has not had any concerns over the way we have been managing it."
The site is still under outbreak designation, but Selske said all necessary protocol has been followed to best curtail the potential for further infections among the 128 residents and about 200 staff.

Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital (OSMH) and the Simcoe Muskoka District Heath Unit declared an enteric outbreak in one of its wards Friday afternoon.
Three patients and seven hospital staff in Soldiers' One, which deals with acute-care patients, have developed Norwalk-like symptoms, including vomiting, diarrhea, stomach cramps and nausea, in the past 48 hours, said Cindi Wigston, infection prevention practitioner with OSMH.
Enteric infections caused by a virus (which is suspected to be the case at OSMH) tend to be self-limiting, Wigston said, adding they typically pass in about 24 hours. Enteric infections are not generally thought of as dangerous, though the effects may be more severe in older patients or young children with existing conditions.
WELLAND ? A Norovirus outbreak has been declared in the Woolcott Wing of Welland hospital.
Visitors to the hospital wing must now wear gloves and a mask following the outbreak that was declared Friday evening in conjunction with Niagara Region public health.
Eight patients in the wing have been confirmed positive for the Norwalk virus and about 12 staff members are showing symptoms and off work, said a news release issued by Niagara Health System.
Seven staff members have been confirmed to have the illness, said Kim Stephens-Woods, the NHS's vice-president of patient services.
Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital (OSMH) announced Tuesday it will be rescheduling surgeries and outpatient clinic appointments for the remainder of this week, primarily due to a gastro outbreak declared last week.
The outbreak has restricted admission to one of OSMH's primary medical units.
The outbreak in the Soldiers' One unit was declared Friday, when three patients and seven staff members exhibited signs and symptoms of a Norwalk-like virus, which includes the sudden onset of nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Two more staff members have since reported signs and symptoms.
With the hospital unable to admit patients into the unit, the emergency department has been backed up with patients who have been admitted to hospital but don't have an available bed. As many as 14 patients were waiting in emergency early Tuesday.
A week-long gastro outbreak on one of the main medical units at Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital is now over. The hospital, in consultation with the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU), lifted the outbreak status on Soldiers' One earlier today.

It was originally anticipated that Saturday morning would be the earliest possible end to the outbreak, but upon further discussion with Soldiers', it was determined that the outbreak could be declared over today, as there have been no new patient-acquired cases of the Norwalk-like virus on that unit for the required five (5) day period.
