A grim tally of unemployment during COVID-19 shows nearly a quarter-million jobs have vanished in this province.
According to a new report from Hellosafe, Ontario saw total losses of 221,500 jobs between November 2019 and November 2020 because of the pandemic; more than 9% were unemployed as of November 2020.
The obvious influence of a COVID-related lockdown made last April the cruelest month, with nearly 700,000 jobs lost — 9.6% of all the jobs in the province.
The numbers are a direct result of the government emergency restrictions that shuttered all non-essential businesses and schools and halted travel...
