Chicken pox scare hits York prenatal class

Pregnant women who attended a prenatal class in York are being advised to seek medical attention after they were potentially exposed to chicken pox.

While the majority of Canadian adults are immune to the virus, the illness poses more serious risk of complication to pregnant women and can case severe complications to the fetus.

Toronto Public Health is advising women who attended the Tuesday, May 25 1:30 p.m. Canada Prenatal Nutrition Program class at York Community Services at 1651 Keele St. north of Rogers Road to seek immediate medical assessment...

Search continues for moms at prenatal class with chicken pox

Toronto public health officials continue to search for pregnant moms who may have been exposed to the dangerous chicken pox virus at a prenatal class in York last week.

"There are still a few people we are trying to reach," associate medical officer of health, Dr. Herveen Sachdeva, told The Guardian Wednesday, June 2.

So far, officials have been able to reach 17 of 23 pregnant women who attended a drop-in Canada Prenatal Nutrition Program class Tuesday, May 25 at 1:30 p.m. at York Community Services (YCS) at 1651 Keele St. north of Rogers Road.

They were possibly exposed to the virus by a class instructor, who only later realized they had the chicken pox, Sachdeva said...
