TORONTO -- Ontario health officials are reporting more than 1,000 new COVID-19 cases for the first time since late spring.

The province confirmed 1,031 new cases of the novel coronavirus on Friday. The last time the province reported more than 1,000 new cases in a single day was on May 30 when 1,033 new cases were logged...

... Of the new infections reported Friday, 589 cases involved people who are unvaccinated, partially vaccinated or their vaccination status is unknown. The remaining 442 infections involved people who are fully vaccinated.

Health experts have said that the number of infections in fully vaccinated individuals will rise as more people get the vaccine.

The province recorded four more deaths on Friday, bringing the total death tally in the province to 10,016.

There are currently at least 146 people being treated for COVID-19 in Ontario intensive care units. Health Minister Christine Elliott says that of those patients, 119 are not fully vaccinated or have an unknown vaccination status and 27 are fully vaccinated...

Ontario reported another 1,053 cases of COVID-19 on Saturday. That's the highest daily case count in half a year and the second day in a row where Ontario's case count has topped 1,000.

There is now another confirmed case of the omicron variant of COVID-19 in the province, according to Public Health Ontario.

A Hamilton resident who travelled recently to South Africa has tested positive, the agency said in a Saturday news release. A second potential case is under investigation,...

...Here are some other key pandemic indicators and figures from the Ministry of Health's daily provincial update:

Tests completed: 36,268.

Provincewide test positivity rate: 3.5 per cent.

Active cases: 7,540.

Patients in ICU with COVID-related illnesses: 160; 98 needed a ventilator to breathe.

Deaths: Eight, pushing the official toll to 10,024.

Vaccinations: 80,989 doses were administered, bringing the total doses administered to date up to 23,913,372. Currently, 90 per cent of Ontarians aged 12 years or older have received one dose of a vaccine, while 87.3 per cent have received two.

Ontario reports 1,184 new COVID-19 cases, no new deaths

Ontario is reporting 1,184 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, bringing the total case count in the province to 623,497.

It marks the third day in a row the case count has been higher than 1,000 but overall hospitalizations and ICU occupancy have remained steady.

Of the 1,184 new cases recorded, the data showed 557 were unvaccinated people, 22 were partially vaccinated people, 536 were fully vaccinated people and for 69 people the vaccination status was unknown...

...Test positivity hit 3.2 per cent for Sunday.

Ontario reported 140 people in general hospital wards with COVID-19 with 164 patients in intensive care units and 146 patients in intensive care units on a ventilator...

Ontario health officials are reporting 887 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday.

Officials also recorded three new deaths, pushing the total number of COVID-19-related fatalities in the province to 10,027...

...Ontario’s rolling seven-day average now stands at 940, up from 783 at this point last week...

...Of the new infections reported Monday, 373 cases involved people who are unvaccinated, 24 were in those partially vaccinated and 64 were in individuals whose vaccination status is unknown. The remaining 426 infections involved people who are fully vaccinated...

... Today's case count comes amid concerns about the continued spread of the Omicron variant within the GTHA. As of Monday, all the regions within the Greater Toronto Area have reported at least one case of the new variant

The province stated at least 137 people are in hospital due to COVID-19. Of those hospitalized, 166 were admitted in the last 24 hours — 90 of which were unvaccinated, 12 were partially vaccinated and 64 were fully vaccinated.

According to officials, 168 patients are in intensive care due to COVID-19.

The Ministry of Health has not provided an explanation for the discrepancy in hospitalization and ICU numbers...

Ontario is reporting 928 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, as case counts continue to rise week over week. The provincial case total now stands at 625,312...

Of the 928 new cases recorded, the data showed 424 were unvaccinated people, 26 were partially vaccinated people, 401 were fully vaccinated people and for 77 people the vaccination status was unknown...

...The death toll in the province has risen to 10,036 as seven more deaths were reported...

...Ontario reported 340 people in general hospital wards with COVID-19 (up by 203 from the previous day) with 165 patients in intensive care units (down by three) and 144 patients in intensive care units on a ventilator (down by five)...

...For those in general hospital wards with COVID, 122 were unvaccinated, 10 were partially vaccinated and 75 were fully vaccinated. For those in ICUs, 70 were unvaccinated while 3 were partially vaccinated and 19 were fully vaccinated...

Ontario reported more than 1,000 new COVID-19 cases and eight more virus-related deaths on Wednesday as the seven-day rolling average of new infections hit a high not seen in over six months.

Provincial health officials logged 1,009 new coronavirus infections today, up from 928 yesterday and from 780 a week ago...

The province reported 1,053 new cases on Saturday, 1,184 on Sunday and 887 on Monday...

Ontario health officials are reporting the highest number of daily COVID-19 cases since late May on Thursday with 1,290 new infections logged.

In addition to the new cases reported today, 10 new deaths were recorded, pushing the total number of COVID-19-related fatalities in the province to 10,054...

... Of the new infections reported Thursday, 548 cases involved people who are unvaccinated, 42 were in those partially vaccinated and 83 were in individuals whose vaccination status is unknown. The remaining 617 infections involved people who are fully vaccinated...

...The province stated at least 309 people are in hospital due to COVID-19. Of those hospitalized, 196 were reported to have been admitted in the last 24 hours — 106 of which were unvaccinated, eight were partially vaccinated and 77 were fully vaccinated.

According to the province, 155 of patients hospitalized are in intensive care due to COVID-19...

Ontario reported 1,453 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, the most in more than six months, ahead of an expected announcement that the province will introduce stronger proof-of-vaccination measures to combat a surge in infections.

The government is dropping its tentative plan to end the provincial vaccine passport program in mid-January and will require all proof-of-vaccination certificates to include QR codes, a senior government source told CBC News...

...Today's case count marks a 41 per cent increase over last Friday and is the most new infections logged on a single day since May 23, as the third wave of the pandemic was slowly waning.

The seven-day average of daily cases has risen to 1,115, and is currently on pace to double roughly every three weeks.

Public Health Ontario today reported a 4.4 per cent positivity rate on 39,941 tests, by far the highest level of the fourth wave and also the highest one-day rate since May 26.

Still, the burden of COVID-19 on intensive care units has stayed relatively stable. As of Thursday, there were 151 COVID patients in critical care, down from 155 the day before and 17 fewer than the fourth-wave peak of 168 reached earlier this week...

Ontario reported more than 1,600 new COVID-19 cases and five more virus-related deaths on Saturday, marking the highest single-day case count in nearly seven months.

Provincial health officials logged 1,607 new coronavirus infections today, up from 1,453 on Friday and from 1,053 a week ago...

... The seven-day rolling average of new cases hit 1,194 today, a significant rise from 895 a week ago.

Among the latest cases, 864 of the individuals have received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine and are considered fully vaccinated, 623 are unvaccinated, 31 are partially vaccinated and have received at least one dose of a vaccine and 89 have an unknown vaccination status...

Ontario reported 1,476 new cases of COVID-19 and eight additional deaths on Sunday, with labs now reporting more than one in every 20 samples they receive are positive, the highest positivity seen since early May 2021.

The seven-day rolling average of new cases now stands at 1,236, up from 1,194 yesterday and 761 one week ago...

... The Ministry of Health says 576 of Sunday’s cases involve unvaccinated people, 36 involve partially vaccinated people, 771 involve fully vaccinated people and 93 involve people with unknown vaccination status.

Unvaccinated and partially vaccinated people make up 41 per cent of Sunday’s cases but only 23 per cent of Ontario’s population. This ratio has been on a downward slide for months owing perhaps to waning immunity among those fully vaccinated and the rising impact in recent weeks of the Omicron variant.

The Ontario COVID-19 Science Advisory Table says more than 10 per cent of all COVID-19 infections in the province now show initial signs of being Omicron.

A research executive with a major COVID-19 testing lab at University Health Network in Toronto says up to 15 per cent of samples at their labs now indicate they are the Omicron variant...

Ontario reported 1,536 further cases of COVID-19 on Monday, as the province's science advisory group warned that about 21 per cent of all new infections are being caused by the omicron variant.

Today's case count is a 73 per cent jump over the same time last week. The seven-day average of daily cases has climbed to 1,328, it's highest point in more than six months and a 41 per cent rise from last Monday.

According to Ontario's COVID-19 Science Advisory Table, cases due to omicron are on pace to double every three days...

Health officials in Ontario are reporting 1,429 new COVID-19 infections on Tuesday as the positivity rate for the disease climbs higher.

With 33,400 tests processed in the last 24-hour period, the Ministry of Health said that Ontario’s COVID-19 positivity rate is currently 6.6 per cent -- the highest level recorded since May 18 when it reached 7.6 per cent.

Tuesday’s positivity rate marks a significant jump from the 5.5 per cent logged a day earlier...

... Right now, the seven-day average for the number of cases reported in Ontario to 1,400, up from 975 this time last week.

As well, five more deaths related to the novel coronavirus were recorded in the last 24 hours, pushing Ontario’s COVID-19 death toll to 10,084.

Most of the cases reported Tuesday were found in fully vaccinated individuals with 809 testing positive. At least 493 other infections were found in those who are unvaccinated and 33 were found in those who are partially vaccinated. The vaccination status of the remaining 94 people who tested positive is unknown.

Of the 385 patients in hospital with a COVID-19-related illness, 130 are unvaccinated, 85 are fully vaccinated and 12 are partially vaccinated. No vaccination data was provided for the remaining 158 patients.

In the ICU, 71 patients currently receiving care are unvaccinated, 31 are fully vaccinated, and six are partially vaccinated. The vaccination status of the remaining 54 patients was not disclosed...

Ontario reported its highest COVID-19 case count in more than six months on Wednesday, with active cases now up about 50 per cent in one week.

Ontario reported 1,429 new cases on Tuesday and 1,536 on Monday.

The seven-day rolling average of new cases now stands at 1,514, up from 1,007 one week ago.

It’s the highest single-day count of cases in Ontario since May 21 when 1,890 cases were detected.

The Ministry of Health says 625 of Wednesday’s cases involve unvaccinated people, 39 involve partially vaccinated people, 1,046 involve fully vaccinated people and the status of 98 others was not known...

...The Ontario COVID-19 Science Advisory Table now estimates more than 30 per cent of all cases in the province are Omicron...

... The Ministry of Health says there are 357 people admitted to hospital for treatment of COVID-19 across Ontario, down 28 from Tuesday.
