Whooping cough cases a concern

A dramatic increase in the number of reported cases of whooping cough in both infants and adults has officials at Elgin St. Thomas Public Health alarmed.

In the past six months, there have been 66 cases of whooping cough, known medically as pertussis.

That's a lot higher than the average six or seven cases reported in an average year, said Laura McLachlin, director of health protection...

Ten cases of whooping cough confirmed in Huron County

HURON COUNTY ? Ten reported cases of whooping cough has prompted Huron County?s health unit to offer free immunization clinics through the month of June.

It is concerned with the number of confirmed cases of pertussis, or whooping cough, which compares to zero confirmed cases of the highly contagious disease for the same period last year...

...The Huron County Health Unit is encouraging parents, grandparents, child care providers and anyone with children in their life to get the free pertussis booster.

The clinics will be held every Tuesday afternoon for the month of June at the health unit in Clinton. One clinic will be held in Wingham. To make an appointment, call 1-877-837-6143.

The public can also get the vaccination at health care providers? offices.

The Hastings and Prince Edward Counties Health Unit received a confirmatory lab report for Pertussis (whooping cough) in an unimmunized school-aged child. This is the first case reported to the Health Unit this year. The Health Unit typically receives two confirmed cases per year. Although there have been several reported cases in south western Ontario, this case is not believed to be linked...

NORTHUMBERLAND -- The health unit advises residents to check their vaccination records due to a recent jump in local whooping cough cases.

Since the start of July, the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit reports four laboratory-confirmed cases of pertussis -- or whooping cough -- in Northumberland County, Haliburton County and the City of Kawartha Lakes area. The cases involve an older adult and three children, each of whom is recovering, said the health unit's acting director of communicable disease control, Linda McCarey. Usually, only two or three confirmed cases of pertussis are reported to the health unit each year, said Ms. McCarey...

Region sees resurgence of whooping cough

WATERLOO REGION ? There is an outbreak of whooping cough in the region and, if current trends continue, 2012 will see more cases of the highly contagious bacterial disease than any of the previous five years.

So far this year, public health officials have confirmed 16 cases of whooping cough ? officially known as pertussis ? but suspect the tally is as high as 27 cases. That?s a huge increase when compared to last year?s six recorded cases.

?Most of them have been in the last couple of months,? said Dr. Hsiu-Li Wang, the region?s associate medical officer of health...

WOODSTOCK - That cough you have might not be your annual summer cold.

Reported cases of whooping cough are on the rise, not just in Oxford County but also across southwestern Ontario, according to Elaine Reddick, Oxford County public health program supervisor in health protection.

This year 24 lab-confirmed and two suspected cases of the severe respiratory infection, also known as pertussis, have been reported in Oxford County.

That?s a staggering increase over last year?s seven confirmed cases. As of July 26 approximately 240 cases had been reported in southwestern Ontario...

Whooping Cough on the Rise in London

Officials with the Middlesex-London Health Unit are encouraging everyone to get vaccinated for Whooping Cough as cases rise in the London area.

In August there were 14 cases of whooping cough confirmed in London-Middlesex.

57 per cent of those who caught the infection were not vaccinated...
