Only one in eight had swine flu vaccination during pandemic

JUST one in eight people in Wales had a swine flu jab during the pandemic, new figures reveal.
Uptake of the special vaccine, produced to combat the threat from the H1N1 virus, was lower than that for the annual seasonal flu jab.
The figures, published by Public Health Wales yesterday, come after it emerged Wales spent ?15m on swine flu vaccines during the pandemic.
The report reveals 327,662 people ? equivalent to 12.2% of the population of Wales ? had at least one dose of the swine flu vaccine during the 2009-10 pandemic. Uptake was highest among the at-risk groups (44%), rising to 50% in at-risk children. But only 27% of otherwise healthy children had the jab.
Children and adults aged six months and over with a chronic, long-term condition were offered the swine flu jab.
All pregnant women, household contacts of people who were immuno-compromised, frontline health and social care staff and otherwise healthy children between six months and five years old were also offered the vaccine from last October.
