One in ten sick at Lambton College

About 10% of the students and staff at Lambton College are off sick, a substantially higher absentee rate than is normal for this time of year.
Warning signs are posted on entrance doors asking anyone that feels ill not to enter the building, and the dean's office has released a memo advising students about test retakes and other flu strategies, said spokesperson Cindy Buchanan.
The college has a pandemic plan broken down by department, which includes increased cleaning and the addition of hand sanitizer stations on campus, which were set up in September.
It seems to be working, Buchanan said.
"Wandering the halls around here, there (isn't) anyone who's sick," she said. "We haven't heard coughing or hacking."
Although Ontario announced an H1N1 flu vaccine shortage Friday, the college still expects to process with a vaccination clinic ton Nov. 26, Buchanan said.
"We haven't heard that our date will be affected by the announcement ... students are recommended to get their shot if they have the opportunity downtown as well."
She also commended staff for accommodating students who have become sick, and allowing some flexibility with assignments.
