Re: ON: Five flu-related deaths (2 under 18 yrs) in Hamilton this season

Two kids with flu die in Hamilton

Two children with flu have died in Hamilton during the worst influenza season in at least five years.

Five Hamiltonians who tested posted for influenza have died between Nov. 1 and Jan. 14. Two of them were elderly and one was an adult.

The other two were under the age of 18.

?Deaths in children are relatively rare,? said Dr. Monir Taha, associate medical officer of health in Halton.

No children with influenza have died in Halton this season.

Hamilton?s public health department will not give out further details about the exact ages or previous health status of those who died. Dr. Hamidah Meghani, an associate medical officer of health, also can?t say for certain if flu contributed to the deaths.
