Toronto?s public health agency is investigating four lab-confirmed cases of measles in the city.

A news release distributed by the city says the four cases are in two families and involve two children under two years of age and two adults.

According to the statement from Toronto Public Health, the risk to the general public is thought to be low, but the agency is encouraging people to ensure that measles vaccinations are up to date...

NIAGARA ? There has been a confirmed case of measles in Niagara.

Niagara Region Public Health is investigating the case of an adult female confirmed to have measles. Dr. Valerie Jaeger, public health?s medical officer of health and commissioner, said the young woman has travelled to Toronto on a couple of occasions recently but is not known to have travelled outside of Canada recently. This is Niagara?s first confirmed case of measles since 1996. With four confirmed cases in the Toronto area and now the first in Niagara, Jaeger said there is evidence that the highly infectious virus is present in Southern Ontario...

Fifth Toronto measles patient fully vaccinated, say health officials

The latest person to be infected with measles in Toronto was vaccinated against the disease, public health officials confirmed Thursday afternoon.

The individual ? an adult ? joins four other unrelated cases in Toronto. One woman in her 20s in the Niagara Region also contracted measles this week.

The latest case is the first to involve someone who was up to date with the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccination...

TORONTO ? Toronto Public Health says four of the six confirmed measles cases in the city are related.

Public health officials have not determined the specific part of the city where the cases originated, saying only that some have clustered in the west end.

TORONTO -- Three new cases of measles have been confirmed in Ontario, health officials said Saturday.

A 14-year-old girl has been confirmed as the second case of measles in the Niagara Region and two adults have been confirmed as the ninth case in the Greater Toronto Area. None of them have been identified.

Lenore Bromley, media relations manager for Toronto Public Health, says one of the adults in Toronto has been diagnosed with the virus after laboratory testing -- bringing the total number of measles cases in Ontario to 11...

Four new Measles cases confirmed in Ontario

TORONTO ? Four new cases of measles have been confirmed in Ontario.

One of the diagnoses? is in Toronto and three in the Niagara Region, for a total of 16 so far.

Officials in Niagara would only say that the three new cases were linked to the two that were confirmed last week.

They urged people who attended Our Lady of Mount Carmel elementary school on Feb. 9 and 10 or Saint Michael high school between Feb. 6 and 10 to review their immunization records.

Both schools are in Niagara Falls.

Ontario health officials are also warning people who attended an ?Acquire the Fire? event in Toronto earlier this month to check their immunization records after a new measles case has been confirmed...

An Elliot Lake toddler caught measles even though she did have her first immunization shot to protect against the viral disease.

The girl, who is under two, was confirmed to have measles Saturday night, said Jon Bouma, acting director of clinical services for Algoma Public Health. She is recovering with no complications ?and is feeling better.?...

...There's five confirmed cases of measles in Niagara and nine in Toronto. The child did not travel to either locale. Bouma would not speak specifically about where the youngster went in recent weeks, saying only ?nothing out of province.?

It's not known yet what strain of measles sickened the child. Results from a swab sent to National Microbiology Laboratory in Winnipeg should be known midweek...

...More than 300 children and adults could have come into contact with the youngster at a daycare she attends and St. Joseph General Hospital's emergency department. The girl went to hospital on four days this month ?for a number of things,? said Bouma.

Anyone who was at the department Feb. 5, between 1 and 6 p.m., Feb. 6, between 8:50 a.m. and 3 p.m., Feb. 11, between 8 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., and Feb. 13, between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., should check their immunization status and call the health unit for assessment....

The measles strain infecting people in Ontario is one that hasn?t been previously identified, and so far its origins remain mysterious.

Scientists at the National Microbiology Laboratory in Winnipeg have received nine strains from Ontario with the same genotype, said Matthew Gilmour, the lab?s scientific director general.

The laboratory has confirmed the nine strains from Ontario all bear the D4 genotype, a trait that?s similar to but not identical to one in Europe, Gilmour said.

What the genotype sequencing information eliminates is the possibility Ontario?s cases are connected to the Disneyland outbreak in California, which has been confirmed as the source in Quebec?s Lanaudi?re region, northeast of Montreal.

Additional lab tests have ruled out a measles case in Elliot Lake involving a toddler.

On Feb. 22, Algoma Public Health reported a young girl, under two, had the infectious viral disease.

The child was sick, but due to another virus with similar symptoms, including rash and high temperature, as measles...

? Popeye?s Chicken on Fennell Avenue east on Monday, March the 9th.

A large workplace in Nanticoke has been exposed to measles after one of its employees likely brought the highly infectious virus back from a trip abroad.

The adult employee, who lives in Hamilton, was at work at least one day while contagious but didn't interact with the public.
