Health unit adds more flu clinics
"...?The predictions of a harsh flu season appear to have come true,? Elizabeth Harrington, the health unit's communications manager, said in a statement released Tuesday. ?It has been a very active flu season with increased activity across the country.
?Many of those affected have needed hospitalization as the predominant strain is strong and contagious.?
...Meanwhile, Brantford General Hospital continues to be besieged by influenza.
?We've had more than 110 patients come in with confirmed cases of the flu and the vast majority of them ? about 88% - have had to be admitted to hospital,? Gary Chalk, a spokesman for the Brant Community Healthcare System, said. ?I think that shows how strong this particular strain of the flu is.
?We've also have 80 patients in isolation right now and on top of that we have 36 patients who are ready for discharge but have to remain in hospital because there supposed to be going to a long-term care facility but those facilities have flu problems of their own so the patients have to stay here.?"
