Oman health: New MERS case found, patient stable

Muscat: A new case of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) has been detected in the Sultanate, the Ministry of Health said in a statement on Sunday.

The new case raises the total number of recorded cases of MERS-CoV in the Sultanate to four.

This case relates to a person who was in contact with a patient diagnosed with the virus a few days ago.

The condition of the patient is stable and improving.

He is under observation and undergoing treatment at the referral hospital.

Monitoring
The Ministry said that it continues its efforts to monitor and control the disease through the epidemic monitoring system and all the referral hospitals are prepared to handle such cases.

As of January 6, 2015, the WHO has reported 945 human cases, including 348 deaths due to MERS.

• A 31-year-old female from Dakhelyia Region who developed symptoms on 8 January and was admitted to hospital on 9 January. The patient has no comorbidities. She is a household contact of the MERS-CoV case reported above. The household owns camels but she had no direct contact with them. The patient is in stable condition and remains in isolation.

Muscat: Of the three new cases of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) recorded in the Sultanate of Oman, one person has died and two have almost recovered, a Ministry of Health (MoH) statement revealed on Tuesday.

The Ministry of Health statement also said that 18 new cases of H1N1 were recorded "without any fatalities".

All the patients have recovered .

The total number of MERS cases recorded in the Sultanate since the disease was first reported stands at five including three deaths.
