Influenza-Associated Mortality Surveillance

? Six influenza-associated deaths were reported
during the current reporting week resulting in a total
of 33 since surveillance began September 1, 2009
;

o Reported deaths have been among individuals in
the following age groups: 9 were children less
than 19 years of age; 11 were adults 25- 49
years of age; 8 were adults 50-64 years of age;
and 5 were 65 years and older;
o 23 (70%) of 33 influenza-associated deaths had
documented history of at least one underlying
medical condition that may have increased their
risk of influenza complications, including asthma
and other respiratory conditions, diabetes,
obesity, or an immunocompromising condition.
o County of residence: Oklahoma (10), Tulsa (8),
Carter (2), Cleveland (3), Canadian (1), Comanche
(2), Garfield (1), Kay (1), LeFlore (1), Muskogee
(1), Custer (1), Kiowa (1), and Noble (1).

One death was reported prior to September 1, 2009.
