In addition to the deaths listed below, there was one death reported in Oklahoma prior to September 1st, for a total of 21.
Influenza-Associated Mortality Surveillance
Three influenza-associated deaths were
reported during October 25 through October 31
resulting in a total of 20 reported influenza-
associated deaths since surveillance began
September 1, 2009.
• Reported deaths have been among
individuals in the following age groups: 7
were children less than 19 years of age; 6
were adults 25- 49 years of age; 5 were
50-64 years of age; and 2 were older than
65 years;
• 12 of 20 influenza-associated deaths had
documented history of underlying medical
conditions that may have increased their risk
of illness, including asthma and other
respiratory conditions (5), diabetes (3),
obesity (2), or an immunocompromising
condition (2);
• County of residence: Oklahoma (6), Tulsa
(4), Carter (2), Cleveland (3), Canadian,
Comanche, LeFlore, Muskogee and Noble;
and
• Of the 7 influenza-associated deaths
among children, 3 had underlying medical
conditions that may have increased their risk
of illness. One case was an infant less than
6 months of age.
