Epidemiological comments

The third and final round of testing of surveillance samples in the 3-km-radius and 10-km-radius zones is now completed.

All of the six backyard flocks in the 3-km-radius zone and the only commercial flock in the 10-km-radius zone have been sampled three times and are negative for evidence of Notifiable Avian Influenza virus or previous exposure to Notifiable Avian Influenza virus. There were no commercial flock within the 3-km-radius zone.

In addition, representative samples of the poultry industry in the Control Area (Saskatchewan) beyond the 10 km region perimeter have been tested and are all negative.

Restrictions on the movement of birds, bird products and equipment that may have come into contact with birds were lifted on 31 October 2007.

The index farm (in Saskatchewan) remains under restriction pending completion of cleaning and disinfection procedures prior to repopulation.

The next and final follow-up report will be submitted 3 months following the completion of cleaning and disinfection.
