Ohio high school student dies from flu complications

BEREA, Ohio (WJW)– A student at Berea-Midpark High School passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday following complications from the flu.

Kaylee Roberts, 16, was hospitalized last week with flu-like symptoms, her uncle said. She returned to the hospital with complications, including pneumonia, and suffered a stroke.

Health department: Adult has died from flu in Butler County

— The Butler County health department has received a report that a Butler County adult has died of influenza.

Health Commissioner Jenny Bailer said the department received the report by chance, as it only tracks pediatric influenza deaths and hospitalizations. Details about the person who died were not immediately available.

She said as of Monday afternoon, there have been no pediatric deaths reported.

11-year-old dies from flu in Lake County

MENTOR, Ohio (WJW)– An 11-year-old in Lake County has died from flu-related complications, the Lake County General Health District said on Wednesday.

This is the second pediatric flu death in Ohio this season. The first was 16-year-old Kaylee Roberts, a student at Berea-Midpark High School.

Two more flu deaths reported in Cuyahoga County

PARMA, Ohio (WJW)-- The Cuyahoga County Board of Health is reporting two more flu-related deaths this week.

The victims are a 47-year-old man from Lakewood and a 73-year-old man from Olmsted Township. That brings the total number of flu-related deaths in the county this season to eight, including a 16-year-old girl. The number is slightly below the five-year median.

PARMA, Ohio (WJW)– A 33-year-old North Olmsted man died of the flu this week, the Cuyahoga County Board of Health said on Friday.

This brings the total number of flu-related deaths in the county to nine.

CLEVELAND, Ohio — The total number of flu-related deaths in Cuyahoga County has jumped to 14, health officials said Friday.

The latest five deaths were an 88-year-old Bay Village woman; an 94-year-old Chagrin Falls woman; an 83-year-old East Cleveland woman; a 62-year-old Seven Hills man and a 60-year-old Shaker Heights man. The deaths were reported during the week of Feb. 15.

CLEVELAND, Ohio — The number of flu-related deaths this season, which is considered to be at its peak, has risen by two to 16 in Cuyahoga County.

The deaths of a 33-year-old East Cleveland woman and a 79-year-old Lakewood woman were reported during the week ending Feb. 22, health officials said Friday.

CLEVELAND — As Northeast Ohio and the rest of the world come to grips with a new normal amid the coronavirus pandemic, a brutal flu season continues to hammer the region as well.

Cuyahoga County reported four new flu deaths this week, including an 11-year-old girl. The remaining fatalities were all men between the ages of 62 and 91, and 23 county residents have now died from the flu since October.
