Local flu deaths climb even higher

CUYAHOGA COUNTY -- Health officials say three more people have died from the flu in Cuyahoga County, bringing the total this season to six.

All the noted deaths were senior citizens. The latest three deaths Dec. 14-20 were two residents of Cleveland and a Westlake resident. The deaths Dec. 6-13 were residents of Brecksville, Cleveland and Shaker Heights.

During the last two weeks, there have been 343 flu-related hospitalizations ? 57 percent of which are those 70 and older or 10 and younger...

...The Cuyahoga County Board of Health said the three victims were senior citizens. They were residents of Cleveland, Northfield Center and Twinsburg, and passed away between Dec. 21 and Dec. 27.

This brings the total number of Cuyahoga County flu-related deaths to seven this season. Two of the recent victims are Summit County residents...
 
Ohio reports more flu hospitalizations, 8 deaths

CLEVELAND – Ohio's most populous county reported Friday that eight people died from the flu in the first full week in January as the unusually bad flu season continues.

The deaths reported by the Cuyahoga County Board of Health for the week ending Jan. 10 are half the agency's total of 16 for the season and the most in a week since 2009.

CUYAHOGA COUNTY -- The total number of flu-related deaths this season is up to 26.

The Cuyahoga County Board of Health released new details Thursday that revealed an additional 10 people died from the flu between Jan. 11-17.

The deceased, which range in age from 81-99 years old, are from Cleveland, Bay Village, Euclid, Garfield Heights, Mayfield Heights and Westlake...
