Meningitis case confirmed at Muskingum University

NEW CONCORD - A 19-year-old male student at Muskingum University was diagnosed with bacterial meningitis Wednesday morning.

No other cases have been reported, according to the Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department, and Linda Barker, communicable disease nurse with the department, said she could not remember another case of meningitis occurring in the county in the past five years.

The student is a member of the basketball team and was living in a dorm room, Barker said. He was diagnosed at Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, where he's being treated. The student has not been on campus in several days...
