[/FONT][FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif]About 900 government and health officials from around the state will gather in Richmond Thursday to discuss[/FONT][FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif] preparing for a flu pandemic.

The summit will address concerns that a strain of avian flu will mutate to a form that can be transmitted from person to person, causing a massive flu outbreak.[/FONT]

[FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif]US Health and Human Services Secretary Michael Leavitt will be among the speakers tomorrow morning. Governor Tim Kaine and state Health and Human Resources Secretary Marilyn Tavenner also will speak before participants meet in smaller discussion groups.
