Lucknow:

An official from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Atlanta, visited Lucknow on Tuesday for collecting information regarding the acute encephalitis syndrome in Uttar Pradesh.

The visit was part of a preparatory programme for launching the global disease detection programme in the country. Kenneth C Earhart, country director of CDC for India, visited the communicable disease office in Medical and Health Directorate for an understanding of the AES scenario in the state.

?It was just an initial visit by him for the project that they are planning to launch in January 2012. They are planning to visit Gorakhpur in October for a further understanding of the disease in the state,? said AK Dhawan, Director of Communicable Disease.

Earhart was accompanied by an official from the US Embassy, said Dhawan.
