Swine flu claims its first victim in Odisha this year

Bhubaneswar: With the number of swine flu affected persons increasing by each day, the avian influenza claimed its first victim in Odisha today.

As per official sources, a 53-year-old man admitted to a private hospital in capital city succumbed today while undergoing treatment.

One person has died of swine flu infection at a private hospital while undergoing treatment, Director of Health Services Chandra Dash said.

[h=1]Swine flu in Odisha: Death toll rises to three, 13 new cases today[/h] The swine flu toll in Odisha rose to three on Tuesday with the death of two more persons, an official statement said.
While one person died at SCB Medical College Hospital, Cuttack another succumbed to swine flu at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. Earlier, one person on July 29 had died of swine flu at a private hospital in the state capital.
Meanwhile, the number of persons affected by H1N1 virus has increased to 59 with 13 fresh cases coming to light on Tuesday.
The swab samples of 19 patients, who were admitted to various hospitals in the twin cities, were tested at the Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC). Of them, 13 tested positive for the H1N1 virus.

[h=1]Swine flu death toll mounts to 4 in Odisha[/h] Bhubaneswar: With one person succumbing to H1N1 virus today, the number of deaths due to swine flu in the State has gone up to 4.
A woman from Jagatsinghpur district, identified as Shanta Priya Das (79) died today while undergoing treatment at private hospital in Odisha capital.
Meanwhile, the number of affected persons increased to 71 with 12 fresh cases being reported on Wednesday.
Of the 27 swab samples, 12 were tested positive for the H1N1 virus at the Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC) here on Tuesday, official sources said.
Of these 12, seven are male and five female.
So far, of the 257 samples from the state that were sent for testing, 71 were found positive for the H1N1 virus.

Bhubaneswar: Despite Odisha Government?s repeated claims of being fully prepared to meet the swine flu outbreak in the state, two more persons died to the disease on Friday ? one each at the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack and the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla ? taking the toll due to the deadly disease to six in the State. The two patients who died due to the disease caused by the H1N1 virus today have been identified as Bijay Sahoo of Tirtol area in Jagatsinghpur district (SCB) and Jalandhar Meher of Bargarh (VIMSAR). Meher had been put under ventilator after his condition deteriorated on Thursday evening.
On the other hand the vector-borne disease is gradually spreading its tentacles in the State with new positive swabs being detected each passing day. So far 84 patients have tested positive for the deadly disease in the State with 13 new cases ? 10 male and three female ? being reported on Thursday.

Bhubaneswar: 8 people died from Swine Flu in Odisha: Death toll from Odisha swine flu has so far claimed eight lives, while 103 people in the state are suffering from this disease. An official of the health department said that 16 of the 28 samples were confirmed on Monday by swine flu virus, and the number of people infected with this virus increased to 103. The official said that a total of 342 samples have been scrutinized so far.

Do not need to panic

Meanwhile, two cases of dengue have been reported in the state. However, the Health Department has said that there is no need to panic, because the situation is under control. Health Secretary P.K. Bhubaneswar, Aug. 18: The health and family welfare department today confirmed two more deaths due to swine flu. With this, the toll in the disease has risen to 13 in the state this season.

Besides, 20 new swine flu cases were also recorded today, taking the number of patients in the state to 204.

Odisha swine flu toll hits 14

Bhubaneswar, Aug. 19: The official toll of swine flu deaths in Odisha went up to 14 after one more death was reported today.

The swine flu victim was a 40-years-old woman from Sundargarh and was under treatment at Vimsar in Burla, health sources said. According to the information available from the Odisha health department, till yesterday, 13 persons died of the disease.

CUTTACK: A 44-year-old man of Mahakalpada in Bari block of Jajpur district succumbed to swine flu at SCB Medical College and Hospital here on Thursday night, increasing the death toll in H1N1 to 24 in the State.
