Odisha: Cholera breaks in Balikuda village, 3 died and 70 affected

Report by Kahnu Nanda; Jagatsinghpur: At least three people were killed including a girl child and about 70 residents have been affected following cholera broke out in Dobhala village under Borekina Panchayat in Balikuda block past one week, reports said that most of the victims are undergoing treatment in headquarters hospital here and Borekina, Balikuda PHCs.

Sources said that the deceased?s have been identified as Nari Sethy [70], Kailash Barik [45] and Ankita Barik a five year old girl child of Sudhansu Barik and affected victims shifted to headquarters hospital for treatment on Saturday night have been named as Betani Sethy, Anju Barik, Rangalata Barik, Nandei Sethy and Bebina Barik, meanwhile hospital sources said that their conditions are fast curing and would be discharged soon.

Diarrhoea-hit Ganjam cancels doctors' leaves

BERHAMPUR: The Ganjam district administration has cancelled leaves of doctors and para-medical staff in diarrhoea-affected areas. Unconfirmed reports say death toll from the disease in the district has risen to seven with two more persons succumbing to the water-borne disease. Government sources, however, said the toll remained two.

"We have asked doctors and para-medical staff in the diarrhoea-hit areas to remain on duty cancelling leaves that they might have taken," collector Krishan Kumar said on Sunday after visiting some of the villages near Bhanjanagar on Saturday. There are four medical officers in the health centre at Gallery, one of the worst-affected areas.

Diarrhoea toll mounts to seven

BHUBANESWAR: A 40-year-old woman died at a hospital in Titilagarh on Thursday evening taking the total number of diarrhoeal deaths in the past 10 days in the state to seven. These include five deaths from three villages of Angul district, where government has confirmed a case of cholera.

Director public health (DPH) Dr Prasad Kumar Patnaik said two persons died of diarrhoea at Sardhapur village, a hilltop village, in Angul district where vibrio cholerae bacteria was found in one of the stool samples. The village had reported dozen-odd cases of diarrhoea. Two others died in Badtola while one died in Hinji Dola village. Sources said the V. cholerae strain was identified as toxigenic serogroup O1 and serotype Ogawa, the same strain had caused many deaths in tribal-dominated Rayagada district in 2010. Among others, one person died in Kalahandi district last week, the DPH said.

Nabarangpur: At least six persons including two children died of diarrhoea and many others were affected during the last week in two blocks in Nabarangpur district, official sources said.

Odisha: Diarrhoea Deaths reported from the district lacked credibility, Collector Yamini Sarangi

Report by Basant Rath; Nabarangpur: Diarrhoea deaths had been reported from Chandahandi and Umerkote block, of the district at least eight persons including two children died in diarrhea while many others were affected and admitted to nearby hospitals.

In Chandahandi block alone, six persons, including two children, have died of diarrhea with in the last eight days. They have been identified as Syam Pangi (5) of Charaghati village, Eswar Goudo (30) of Semlapada, Suna Nag (55) and Parvati (15) of Belpati, Sesmal Pota (48) of Bhendia, and Kunti Nial (35) of Badamunda village. Hundreds were affected by the disease have been admitted at Chandahandi and Deabandh CHCs.

Reacting to recent news of diarrhea cases reported in the district Collector Yamini Sarangi, said the news of 8 deaths published in newspapers lacked credibility. On Wednesday she clarified that only two had died of diarrhoea while attributing four other deaths to food poising and other diseases.

Odisha: MP Pradeep Majhi raises apprehension over Diarrhea death in Nabarangpur district

Report by OD bureau; Nabarangpur: Fifteen persons have so-far died in diarrhea in various block of Nabarangpur district. Diarrhea has taken away the sleep of not only common people but also medical people and local administrative in this area. No proper medical team has been reached and treating in this constituency. So far in Chandakandi block the total toll is twelve.

Today morning after meeting the affected people in Chandakandi Block, local MP Sri Pradeep Majhi discussed with local doctor who are treating the patients. Like this he has met all family members of deceased who lost their life in diarrhea.

Cholera strikes in 11 districts of Odisha

BHUBANESWAR: Cholera, which had claimed 183 lives and affected over 2000 in KBK region in 2010, has again emerged as a major headache for the state government. With samples from Dasmantpur block of Koraput testing positive for Vibrio cholerae on Thursday, the total number of districts where the virus was found in August alone went up to nine, government sources said.

Samples from total 11 of the 30 districts have tested positive so far this season (June-August). The state has recorded 20 deaths from various diarrhoeal diseases, including cholera, during the same period.

44 died of diarrhoea, 2 in dengue during eight months: Odisha

At least 44 persons have died of diarrhoea and two others lost their lives due to dengue during the last eight months in Odisha, health and family welfare minister Damodor Rout said.

"Of the 2643 persons infected in diarrhoea from January to August this year, 44 died in the disease. They died due to late arrival at hospitals," Rout said in the assembly.

Similarly, of the 63 persons infected due to dengue, two persons from Dhenkanal district died for not coming to hospital, the minister said.

Fresh cholera cases in Nabarangpur

KORAPUT: Fresh diarrhoea cases continue to pour into several hospitals in the district even as the administration claims of taking all necessary measures to arrest the outbreak of Vibro cholera in Nabarangapur.

Causing much embarrassment to the administration, two persons reportedly died of diarrhoea in the district on Thursday night, taking the unofficial death toll to 27. The official figure for diarrhoea related deaths was pegged at six in the district till Friday.

Odisha: Diarrhoea follows Dengue in southern district of Ganjam

"Diarrhoea has been a regular visitor to the backward parts of Odisha during the post-monsoon time. This year, before Ganjam, the southern district of Nabrangpur reeled under the disease for weeks. It demands serious attention of the administration to ensure proper sanitation in the villages and make safe drinking water available to all the villages.?

When parts of Odisha still fight with dengue, at least two diarrhoea deaths in Patrapur Block in last one week have confirmed to the fact of diarrhoea break-out in parts of Odisha?s Ganjam district.

It?s believed that consumption of contaminated water from open sources like the rivers and streams and lack of sanitary facilities in the villages are primary causes behind spread of the disease.

The Sub-Collector of Berhampur, Dr Ajit Mishra, who has been camping at Patrapur and village Kelua since last four days following guidelines issued by District Collector Dr. Krishan Kumar, is looking after the situation and seeing that the treatment of diarrhoea patients goes properly.
