Norovirus hits 29 at rest home

A norovirus outbreak has hit a Geraldine, South Canterbury, rest home, with 29 staff and patients affected.
Mackenzie Healthcare chief executive Thomas Scott said 14 staff and 15 patients had been struck by the virus, which causes vomiting and diarrhoea.
"We have been doing what we can to contain the norovirus as it is highly contagious," he told the Timaru Herald.
"We have been closed to visitors to prevent the spread and stop anyone unknowingly bringing it back in. Once everyone is clear we will be open to visitors again."
