Majority of NZ’s imported dengue cases linked to Cook Islands
Cook Islands accounted for approximately 90 per cent of New Zealand’s imported dengue cases, according NZ health authorities.
As of last week, 86 people in New Zealand contracted dengue, 75 of whom had recently travelled to the Cook Islands.
Dengue cases in the Cook Islands, especially Rarotonga, have surged over the past two months. The latest update, released on January 19, shows 507 cases since May 2025, including 65 cases in the Pa Enua.
According to PMN News, NZ health authorities are urging travellers to and from the Pacific Islands, including the Cook Islands, to stay alert for dengue fever, as regional outbreaks intensify and more cases are imported back to New Zealand...
