Hundreds of people may have been exposed to measles by an infected child on board a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Auckland.

Malaysian Airlines flight MH131 arrived in Auckland last Thursday 26 February but it was only today that lab results confirmed measles.

Medical Officer of Health Dr Julia Peters said public health officials were trying to track down about 80 people who were in the 11 rows directly behind the infected child and were most at risk...

People are being urged to get immunised following a second confirmed case of measles in Christchurch.

The CDHB says the cases, two weeks apart, suggests measles has gained a foothold in the community.

The recent measles scare in Canterbury has been diagnosed as a false alarm following lab tests which show two children did not have the virus.

Health officials previously believed two separate children were infected with the virus, and two 'confirmed' cases were reported at preschools in St Albans and Sumner in early March.

However Canterbury Medical Officer of Health Dr Alistair Humphrey says new tests show the children were actually suffering from less dangerous viruses...

Firefighters who raced to the top of the Sky Tower in a bid to raise money for charity may have been exposed to measles.

One person who took part in the Firefighter Sky Tower Stair Challenge on Saturday has returned home to Palmerston North and been diagnosed with the highly infectious virus.

Measles warning after infected tourist's visit

Health authorities have issued a measles warning after an infected tourist visited parts of Wellington, Marlborough and Canterbury this week.

The 28-year-old European man is thought to have contracted the highly infectious disease while visiting Australia.

He first noticed measles-like symptoms on Monday and later checked in at a doctor's clinic in Kaikoura two days later. Tests yesterday confirmed he had measles.

Canterbury medical officer of health, Dr Alistair Humphrey, said he was now in a private house near Christchurch. All other residents staying there are immunised against measles...
