Appeal goes out for city safety heroes

Wellington City Council is on the hunt for some local heroes.

Mayor Kerry Prendergast has called for nominations for Wellington’s sixth Safety in the City awards, which seek to recognise people who have helped keep our city safe.

Last year’s winners included
a teenage Wellington surf lifesaver who rescued a young boy from the sea in the Bay of Plenty; a young mum who prevented the abduction of a child; a man who dived off a boat into the harbour to rescue a man at risk of being crushed by the vessel; and health workers on the swine flu frontline.

The Safety in the City Awards will be presented at a ceremony in the Council Chamber, Wellington Town Hall, on Thursday 30 September.
