Thousands of storm victims are becoming ill from their moldy, cold, flood-damaged homes, adding to the borough?s already overwhelming medical woes caused by Superstorm Sandy, officials told the Daily News.

For thousands of families affected by Hurricane Sandy, the long process of renovating and rebuilding is further complicated by the possibility of environmental contaminants in the home. ?We?re still trying to quantify the impact of Sandy in terms of environmental health, but in the meantime we?re concerned about children developing respiratory illnesses due to the cold, wet and moldy surroundings that many families are living in,? says Anandaraja. ?The important thing is for families to be on the alert so they can notice if their children aren?t doing well and seek medical care right away...?
