NY Times Article: Pandemic Faith

Re: NY Times Article: Pandemic Faith

The annual pilgrimage to Mecca frequently causes many deaths;panics, stampedes, structures collapsing, illness etc. and, from memory, these fatalities have been "caused by the will of Allah" and/or laterly,by George Bush. We accept this annual toll and move along. But this time I think the International Community has a much bigger stake in this and the time has come for a bit of a rethink on the acceptability of this Haj occurring this year at all.Do you reckon a few Mullahs should proclaim that Allah has flagged it away for the moment...revisit the concept in future et al ? Not being of the Islamic faith;or any, come to that,I don't want these folk making my life-expectations a lot narrower because of their faith.

Re: NY Times Article: Pandemic Faith

Haj won't happen again until next Jan or Feb, unless I'm mis-remembering. Seems we were watching that during the outbreak in Turkey in Jan and the Russians had their Haj -goers skip over Turkey...

We considered it a large risk at the time, along with the Chinese New Year with millions of Chinese traveling...

I couldn't read the article, but if it hasn't hit by next Jan it could be a risk.
