Monroe County - Flu season hit harder and earlier than usual across the country, and in Monroe County.

The county health department says there have been 8 flu-related death and 1,348 flu cases so far this season...

...The county had approximately 350 confirmed cases of flu in the week ending Jan. 19. There were close to 500 cases in the preceding week...

...So far this season, the county has reported 2,355 laboratory-confirmed cases. Many people with flu-like illness don't seek medical attention...So the true number of cases is probably much higher.

The county reported that nine adults ? all but one age 65 or older ? have died of flu-related illness...
