The initial child with measles was unvaccinated and acquired measles on a visit to Israel, where a large outbreak of the disease is occurring. Two cases of measles confirmed at Spencerport School

ROCHESTER, NY (WHEC) -- Two students from the Canal View Elementary School in Spencerport have been diagnosed with measles.

The Monroe County Department of Public Health said on Saturday that the two students had not been vaccinated for the disease.

Public Health officials are working with Spencerport Central School District to determine whether other students at Canal View Elemantary are at risk of infection. Precautionary guidelnes already have been sent to concerned parents...

Fourth case of measles confirmed in Monroe County

SPENCERPORT, N.Y. ( WHEC) -- The Monroe County Department of Health confirmed another case of the measles in Spencerport Thursday.

This will be the fourth confirmed case of the measles in the county.

The health department tells News10NBC it's another student at Canal View Elementary School in Spencerport.

The student came into contact with two other students who tested positive for the measles. A toddler was also diagnosed with the measles earlier this month...

The worst local outbreak of measles in decades, which likely will total at least six cases, began when a toddler contracted the virus and began a chain of contagion among other unvaccinated children.

Four Monroe County children have so far been diagnosed with measles, a viral disease whose symptoms can range from mild to life-threatening. None of the children had been immunized against the virus.

Two more unvaccinated children have been exposed and presumably have measles or will show symptoms soon, said Ryan Horey, a spokesman for the Monroe County Department of Public Health.

Six cases is an exceedingly high number. Since 1995, only one other case of measles has been reported in a resident of Monroe County...

County and NY health officials invoked health emergency rules months ago as the country's longest running measles outbreak began to climb.

Rockland County health officials coping with the country's longest measles outbreak had fingers crossed as February began to unfold. They started the month with a total of 130 confirmed cases of measles over four months ? and for more than 10 days, no others were reported.

But in the middle of this week, they learned about five more.

By Friday another two had been confirmed. Plus there's one more suspected case that they're monitoring. That sets the clock back to zero in the county's 21-day countdown for lifting emergency restrictions on schools where the vaccination rate among students is lower than 80 percent...

Confirmed case of measles exposure reported in Bergen County

A New Jersey man who has been diagnosed with measles may have exposed people in Bergen County to the disease earlier this month, particularly at two locations in Hillsdale, state health officials said.

The exposures would have occurred between Feb. 17 and Monday, a spokeswoman for the state Health Department said. The man was not identified but "had recent contact with a community outside New Jersey experiencing an ongoing outbreak of measles," the statement said. Outbreaks are currently occurring in Rockland and Monroe counties in New York, and in Texas, Illinois and Washington State.

Anyone who visited the AFC Urgent Care Hillsdale, at 2 Broadway, on Monday, Feb. 18, between 2 and 5 p.m., or visited the Walgreens Pharmacy, at 383 Washington Ave., between 3 and 5:30 p.m. the same day, may have been exposed...

31 new measles cases identified in Brooklyn: Health Department

The city Health Department on Thursday again called on parents to vaccinate their children against measles, as an outbreak in Brooklyn, mostly affecting the Orthodox Jewish community, grew to 121 cases since October.

The department said it identified 31 new cases, including five diagnoses in the past week and 26 cases discovered after patients' symptoms had subsided. Twenty-one of those new cases were tied to a yeshiva in Williamsburg.

The outbreak has primarily affected children, with only 13 cases afflicting adults and has been concentrated in the neighborhoods of Borough Park and Williamsburg...

Rockland Up to 140 Confirmed Measles Cases
Brooklyn's measles outbreak has almost caught up.

ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY ? The number of confirmed measles cases in the county has climbed by one. Rockland health officials are investigating four suspected cases of measles and said they have now confirmed 140 cases since the outbreak began five months ago.

Rockland's outbreak is centered in its Ultra-Orthodox Jewish community. Most affected are yeshivas in the communities of Monsey, New Square and Spring Valley. Nine yeshivas that had not complied with the orders to keep un- or under-vaccinated students home and provide health officials with updated vaccination records were fined about $70,000 in December.

So far, the county has lifted restrictions on more than 30 schools whose vaccination rates have met goals but more than 20 remained under the rules as of the middle of February...

County health officials say a Monroe College student was diagnosed with the highly contagious infection on Friday.
