ESKASONI ? The number of reported chickenpox cases is on the rise in Eskasoni, according to public health officials.

The contagious infection has been reported among children in the middle-school age group.

The medical officer for health in Eastern Nova Scotia, Dr. Eilish Cleary, said varicella can pose risks to pregnant women or people with weakened immune systems.

?We?ve had a small cluster of cases,? said Cleary. ?Chickenpox is not reportable in Nova Scotia, so we don?t have every single case. It?s generally pretty mild, but in a few individuals it can cause serious complications.?...
