Eight Nova Scotians died from COVID-19 the week of Aug. 16 to 22, the province's updated COVID-19 dashboard showed Thursday.

There were an average of 194 daily COVID-19 cases confirmed by PCR testing during that time, a decrease from 206 the previous week. Eleven deaths from COVID-19 were reported last week.

New hospital admissions due to COVID-19 were 34, down from 40 a week ago.

Nova Scotia Health was not able to provide inpatient numbers for Thursday, Aug. 25, due to a technical issue.

COVID-19: Nova Scotia reports 5 deaths, drop in new infections

Nova Scotia reported five more deaths linked to COVID-19 in its latest weekly update — a drop of three from the previous reporting week.

In the seven-day period ending Aug. 29, the province also recorded 38 more hospital admissions, a slight increase from the previous period.

As of Aug. 30, there were 38 people in hospital due to COVID-19 complications, including eight in intensive care units. The median age of those hospitalized with the virus was 84.

Of those in hospital, 29 per cent have not received a single dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, though unvaccinated individuals represent under 15 per cent of Nova Scotians.

The province also reported another 1,310 PCR-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the latest reporting period. Last week it reported 1,445 new cases. Public health does not release the number of self-reported rapid test positives, however...

Nova Scotia reported 15 new deaths linked to COVID-19 in its latest weekly report — up from 10 deaths reported last week.

Last week, the province also surpassed 500 deaths recorded in Nova Scotia since the start of the pandemic. The toll is now at 522 deaths total.

In the seven-day period ending Sept. 12, the province saw 39 hospital admissions in a slight increase from the previous reporting period.

As of Tuesday, there were 48 active hospitalizations due to complications with COVID-19, including nine patients in intensive care. The median age of those hospitalized was 78...

HALIFAX, N.S. — Nova Scotia continues to see double-digit deaths weekly due to COVID-19, with Thursday's update of the online data dashboard reporting 12 for the period of Sept. 13-19.

That's slightly down from the previous week's reported 15 deaths.

The number of weekly positive PCR test results dropped below the 1,000 threshold, however, with 893 reported this week.

There were 42 new hospital admissions and the total number of people being treated in hospital is 48. Four of those are in an ICU.

The median age for those in hospital is 78. The median age of the 422 Nova Scotians who have died during the Omicron variant wave is 83.

Nova Scotia reported 10 deaths from COVID-19 for the week ending Sept. 26, the province's updated COVID-19 dashboard showed Thursday.

The province announced Thursday children five and under are eligible to be booked for their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine if they received their first dose in early August.

There were an average of 142 daily COVID-19 cases confirmed by PCR testing during the last reporting period, up from close to 128 last week. Twelve people died of COVID-19 in the previous reporting period. The median age of deaths for this reporting week is 83.

As of Thursday, Sept. 29, Nova Scotia Health reported 292 patients in hospitals across the province tested positive for COVID-19 — an increase of 66 from the previous week. That number includes:

50 patients in hospital being treated for COVID-19, seven in intensive care.
138 patients in hospital have COVID-19 but are being treated for something else.

Nova Scotia is reporting no new COVID-19-related deaths in its weekly update Thursday.

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, 544 people in Nova Scotia have died from the virus.

The average age of people who have died from the virus is 83.

The data in Thursday’s report covers Sept. 27 to Oct. 3.

HOSPITALIZATIONS

The province reported a decrease in the number of people in hospital with COVID-19.

As of Tuesday, 46 people were in hospital with the virus, down from 55 the week before. Four people were being treated in intensive care.

Nova Scotia reported 11 new COVID-19 deaths Thursday after reporting none the week before.

The province reported 942 new cases in its weekly update, a daily average of 135 cases confirmed by PCR testing for the week of Oct. 4 - Oct. 10. That is down from 168 last week.

As of Thursday, Oct. 13, Nova Scotia Health reported 354 patients in hospitals across the province tested positive for COVID-19 — an increase of 40 from the previous week. That number includes:

42 patients in hospital being treated for COVID-19, six in intensive care.
162 patients in hospital who have COVID-19 but are being treated for something else.
150 patients in hospital who contracted COVID-19 after being admitted to hospital.

Nova Scotia Health did not have figures available up to Thursday, but reported 144 employees off work on Wednesday due to being diagnosed as positive for COVID-19, awaiting results of a COVID-19 test, or being exposed to a member of their household who tested positive for COVID-19. Nova Scotia reported 16 deaths in its latest weekly COVID-19 update for the seven-day period from Oct. 18 to Oct. 24, with a significant increase of people contracting the disease in hospital.

On Thursday, Nova Scotia Health reported 115 patients contracted COVID-19 after admission to hospital. Last week, the health authority reported 48 patients contracted COVID-19 after being admitted.

There were 309 people in hospital with COVID-19, the health authority said Thursday. That is up from 196 patients from the previous week's report.

Of those 309 people:

42 were in hospital for COVID-19 (including five people in ICU).
152 were in hospital for something else but have COVID-19.
115 patients contracted COVID-19 after admission.

Nova Scotia reported 14 new COVID-19 deaths Thursday, but the province says the deaths did not happen within the latest reporting week, which ran from Oct. 25 to Oct. 31.

In an update posted to Nova Scotia's COVID-19 dashboard, the province introduced a new category titled "New Deaths from Previous Reporting Periods." It did not specify when the 14 deaths happened.

The province noted there are no COVID-19 deaths for the current reporting period. The last time the province reported no deaths was the reporting period from Sept. 27 to Oct. 3, 2022.

The province reported 792 new cases confirmed by PCR tests for that same time period — a daily average of 113. This is down from last week, when there were 919 PCR-confirmed cases.

There were 303 people in hospital with COVID-19, the health authority said Thursday. Last week, it reported 309 patients in hospital with COVID 19. That is down slightly from the previous week.

Of those 303 people:

34 were in hospital for COVID-19 (including five people in ICU).
165 were in hospital for something else but have COVID-19.
104 patients contracted COVID-19 after admission.

Nova Scotia's COVID-19 epidemiological summary for October 2022 showed cases and hospitalizations increased and deaths decreased compared with September.

There were 4,969 positive PCR results, 234 hospitalizations and 27 deaths in October. In September, there were 4,664 positive PCR results, 206 hospitalizations and 36 deaths.

All 27 deaths in October were people 70 or older and 12 of them were living in a long-term care facility...

Nova Scotia reported 16 new COVID-19 deaths on Thursday and over 500 new cases over the past week.

There was one death between Nov. 8 and Nov. 14, and 15 more in unspecified “previous reporting periods,” according to the Health Department’s updated COVID-19 dashboard.

There were 33 new hospital admissions over the past week — down two from the previous report — and 552 new lab-confirmed cases, down 119 from from the previous week.

The new deaths bring the total during the COVID-19 pandemic to 632, including 520 since the Omicron variant waves began in December 2021. The median age of those who have died is 83.

There were 43 people in hospital on Nov. 15, including four in ICU, with a median age of 77...

But the province also recorded 14 more deaths from a previous, unspecified time period, according to information released Thursday.

The number of adults being treated for COVID-19 at Nova Scotia Health facilities has jumped.

There were 29 people with COVID-19, including five in ICU, as of Thursday, an NSH spokesperson said in an email.

That's up from 25 reported last week.

There are also 122 people in hospital for something else but have COVID-19 (down from 124 last week) and 34 patients contracted the virus after being admitted (down from 38).

The number of children being treated for COVID-19 as of Thursday at the IWK Health Centre is unchanged at “fewer than five,” a spokesperson said in an email. (That number could mean zero but the IWK doesn’t clarify whether that’s the case.)

Nova Scotia reported 11 COVID-19 deaths in December 2022, according to the province's latest epidemiologic summary.

The number of deaths were down compared to November, but 165 hospitalizations and 3,014 positive PCR test results marked higher figures than the previous month.

Age and lack of vaccination "continue to be associated with severe outcomes," the summary noted.

Nova Scotians 70 and older have been hospitalized at nearly 19 times the rate of people between the ages of 18 to 49, according to the report. The rate of death among people over 70 is 280 times higher compared to people under 50...
