Nova Scotia reports 59 in hospital with COVID-19, including 7 in ICU
Lab testing found 542 new cases of the virus Thursday

Nova Scotia is reporting five more people in hospital with COVID-19 Thursday for a total of 59, including 17 in the intensive care unit.

Five people were discharged over the same period. Those in hospital range from 0 to 100 years, with an average age of 67.

Of those in hospital, 11.9 per cent have had three shots of the vaccine, 52.5 per cent had two shots, 5.1 per cent had one shot and 30.5 per cent are unvaccinated.

Fewer than 10 per cent of all Nova Scotians are unvaccinated, according to provincial statistics....

...The Nova Scotia Health Authority labs did 4,436 tests Wednesday and found 542 new cases of COVID-19. That includes 271 in central zone, 130 in eastern zone, 42 in northern zone and 99 in western zone.

The province estimates there are 6,620 active cases of COVID-19 in Nova Scotia...

Six more people have been admitted to hospital in Nova Scotia due to COVID-19, along with six others discharged.

In a news release Friday, public health says there are currently 57 people in hospital who were admitted due to COVID-19 and are receiving specialized care in a COVID-19 designated unit.

Of the 57 in hospital:

10 people are in intensive care
the average age is 65
54 were admitted during the Omicron wave

Health officials say the average length of stay for those admitted to hospital in Nova Scotia is six days.

The vaccination status of those in hospital is as follows:

five (8.8 per cent) people have had a third dose of COVID-19 vaccine
34 (59.6 per cent) are fully vaccinated (two doses)
three (5.3 per cent) are partially vaccinated
15 (26.3 per cent) are unvaccinated

Public health says there are also two other groups of people in hospital related to COVID-19, which includes:

52 people who were identified as positive upon arrival at hospital but were admitted for another medical reason, or were admitted for COVID-19 but no longer require specialized care
105 people who contracted COVID-19 after being admitted to hospital

As of Friday, less than 10 per cent of Nova Scotians are unvaccinated...

Nova Scotia reported 58 people in hospital with COVID-19 in an update Saturday. There are 10 patients in intensive care.

The abbreviated release did not include information about the number of people admitted and discharged.

The release said there are 627 new confirmed cases.

Of these, 339 are in the central health zone, 113 in the eastern zone, 93 in the western zone and 82 in the northern zone.

The average age of people in hospital is 66, the release said. Of the 58 people in hospital, 55 have been admitted during the Omicron wave...

Health officials in Nova Scotia are reporting four new deaths related to COVID-19 on Monday.

Public health says the deaths involve:

a man in his 40s in Central zone
a man is his 70s in Central zone
a man in his 80s in Eastern zone
a woman in her 90s in Central zone...

... According to the province's online COVID-19 dashboard, there have been 121 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

Fifteen more people have been admitted to hospital in Nova Scotia due to COVID-19, and 12 others have been discharged since Friday.

In a news release Monday, public health says there are currently 73 people in hospital who were admitted due to COVID-19 and are receiving specialized care in a COVID-19 designated unit.

Of the 73 in hospital:

13 people are in intensive care
the average age is 67
70 were admitted during the Omicron wave

Health officials say the average length of stay for those admitted to hospital in Nova Scotia is six days.

The vaccination status of those in hospital is as follows:

eight (11.0 per cent) people have had a third dose of COVID-19 vaccine
45 (61.6 per cent) are fully vaccinated (two doses)
five (6.8 per cent) are partially vaccinated

Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston says there are a total of 256 Nova Scotians in hospital with COVID-19 as of Wednesday.

Houston says 83 people who are in hospital were admitted due to COVID-19 and are receiving specialized care in a COVID-19 designated unit, including 12 in intensive care.

Of the 83 in hospital:
the age range is 29 – 100 years old
the average age is 69
the average length of stay of those admitted to hospital in Nova Scotia due to COVID-19 is 6.5 days
77 were admitted during the Omicron wave

The vaccination status of the 83 individuals in hospital is as follows:

12 (14.5 per cent) people have had a third dose of COVID-19 vaccine
51 (61.4 per cent) are fully vaccinated (two doses)
three (3.6 per cent) are partially vaccinated
17 (20.5 per cent) are unvaccinated

Houston says there are also an additional 66 people who were admitted for other reasons but have since tested positive for COVID-19.

"This could be a heart attack patient who, on admission, was discovered to have had COVID," Houston says.

According to Houston, an additional 107 patients were admitted to hospital for other reasons and contracted COVID-19 in hospital...

Public health says the deaths involve:

a woman in her 50s in the Central zone
a woman in her 70s in the Northern zone

... Nova Scotia health officials say there are a total of 269 people in hospital with COVID-19 on Thursday.

In a release, public health says 85 of those in hospital were admitted due to COVID-19 and are receiving specialized care in a COVID-19 designated unit.

Of the 85 in hospital:

the age range is zero to 100 years old
the average age is 68
the average length of stay of those admitted to hospital in Nova Scotia due to COVID-19 is 6.8 days

Nova Scotia health officials are reporting an additional 16 COVID-19 related hospital admissions on Friday, bringing the total number of people in hospital with the virus to 280.

In a release, public health says 94 of those in hospital were admitted due to COVID-19 and are receiving specialized care in a COVID-19 designated unit.

Of the 94 in hospital:

13 are in intensive care
the age range is zero to 100 years old
the average age is 68
the average length of stay of those admitted to hospital is 6.9 days
89 were admitted during the Omicron wave

The vaccination status of the 94 people who were admitted to hospital due to COVID-19 is as follows:

11 (11.7 per cent) people have had a third dose of COVID-19 vaccine
60 (63.8 per cent) are fully vaccinated (two doses)
four (4.3 per cent) are partially vaccinated
19 (20.2 per cent) are unvaccinated

Today, January 22, Nova Scotia is reporting 82 people in hospital who were admitted due to COVID-19 and are receiving specialized care in a COVID-19 designated unit.
Eleven people are in ICU. The age range of those in hospital is 23-100 years old, and the average age is 67. Of the 82 people in hospital, 79 were admitted during the Omicron wave.
There are also two other groups of people in hospital related to COVID-19:
  • 84 people who were identified as positive upon arrival at hospital but were admitted for another medical reason, or were admitted for COVID-19 but no longer require specialized care
  • 121 people who contracted COVID-19 after being admitted to hospital.
The number of COVID-19 admits and discharges to hospital is not available today.
On January 21, Nova Scotia Health Authority (NSHA) labs completed 3,682 tests. An additional 502 new lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 are being reported.
There are 219 cases in Central Zone, 88 cases in Eastern Zone, 59 cases in Northern Zone and 136 cases in Western Zone.

Nova Scotia reported 82 active COVID-19 hospitalizations on Saturday including 11 patients in intensive care.

The age range of those hospitalized is now 23-100.

According to a release, there are an additional 205 people in hospital who have COVID-19. This includes 84 individuals “who were identified as positive upon arrival at hospital but were admitted for another medical reason, or were admitted for COVID-19 but no longer require specialized care,” and 121 who contracted the virus after being admitted.

On Saturday the province reported 502 new PCR-confirmed cases of COVID-19. These cases include 219 people in the central zone, 88 in the eastern zone, 59 in the northern zone and 136 cases in the western zone...

Nova Scotia reported 85 active COVID-19 hospitalizations on Sunday, which is an increase of three patients from the previous day.

The number of people in intensive care units remains at 11.

According to a news release from the province, the age range of those hospitalized is 23 to 100, and the average age is 67.

Those 85 hospitalizations represent people who were admitted to hospital because of COVID-19 complications.

Another 202 people are in hospital who have tested positive for the virus: 119 contracted COVID-19 after being admitted to hospital, and 83 tested positive when they arrived to be admitted for another reason or were admitted for COVID-19 but “no longer require specialized care.”

Nova Scotia Health Authority labs completed 3,063 tests on Saturday and identified 503 new cases...
