Nova Scotia will open eligibility for booster shots to those aged 30 and up beginning Monday.

Premier Tim Houston said a couple of hundred thousand slots will open Monday for shots that will be delivered at pharmacies and community clinics...

...People receiving boosters must wait at least 168 days after their primary series before being eligible.

The province announced 522 new cases Thursday. Twenty-five people are in hospital with the virus, including three in intensive care.

Houston said the province has reported 7,594 over the last two weeks...

The number of people in Nova Scotia hospitals with COVID-19 has jumped to 34, including four people in intensive care.

That's a jump from the 25 people who were in hospital on Thursday, which included three in ICU.

Nova Scotia reports 1,893 new cases of COVID-19 over the weekend

Nova Scotia has reported 1,893 new cases of COVID-19 for the weekend — 709 on Saturday and a record 1,184 on Sunday.

No information on the number of people in hospital was provided in the abbreviated update.

On Jan. 1, there were 453 cases in the central zone, 126 in the eastern zone, 67 in the northern zone and 63 in the western zone.

On Sunday, there were 835 new cases in the central zone, 118 in the eastern zone, 104 in the northern zone and 127 in the western zone.

In the province's update released Dec. 31, there were 34 people in the hospital with COVID-19 in Nova Scotia. There were four in intensive care.

Premier Tim Houston and Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Robert Strang are scheduled to provide an update on COVID-19 at 2 p.m. AT on Monday...

NOTE: Nova Scotia is issuing an abbreviated COVID-19 news release today. The online dashboard will not be updated today but will be updated tomorrow, January 4.

Today, January 3, Nova Scotia is reporting 1,020 new cases of COVID-19.
There were 664 cases in Central Zone, 120 cases in Eastern Zone, 104 cases in Northern Zone and 132 cases in Western Zone. The NSHA lab completed 6,303 tests.
There are 36 people in hospital with four in ICU. Since the Omicron variant was first identified in Nova Scotia, 31 people have been admitted to hospital with COVID-19. The remaining five cases were in hospital before Omicron arrived.
Because of a spike in testing and positive cases, public health is experiencing delays in follow-up. All cases should contact their close contacts. Public health is prioritizing contact tracing in long-term care, healthcare facilities, correctional facilities, shelters and other group settings.

Today, January 4, Nova Scotia is reporting 1,020 new cases of COVID-19.
There are 544 cases in Central Zone, 182 cases in Eastern Zone, 141 cases in Northern Zone and 153 cases in Western Zone.
There are 40 people in hospital with five in ICU. Their ages range from 26 to 98 years old, and the average age is 70.
Of those in hospital:
  • about 10 per cent have had a third dose of COVID-19 vaccine
  • about 61 per cent are fully vaccinated (two doses)
  • about 3 per cent are partially vaccinated
  • about 26 per cent are unvaccinated
From January 1 to 3, 102 of 2,913 positive lab results were repeat positives.
Because of a spike in testing and positive cases, public health is experiencing delays in follow-up. All cases should contact their close contacts. Public health is prioritizing contact tracing in long-term care, healthcare facilities, correctional facilities, shelters and other group settings.

Hospital Outbreaks
The Nova Scotia Health Authority (NSHA) is reporting new outbreaks at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Northside General Hospital and a new ward at the Victoria General site of the QEII Health Sciences Centre. Less than five patients at each facility have tested positive. All patients are being closely monitored and other infection prevention and control measures are being put in place.
NSHA is reporting additional cases related to an outbreak in a ward at the Halifax Infirmary. There are now 12 patients who have tested positive. All patients are being closely monitored and other infection prevention and control measures are being put in place.
In addition, there are ongoing outbreaks at the Halifax Infirmary, Dartmouth General Hospital, Victoria General site of the QEII Health Sciences Centre, St. Martha’s Regional Hospital in Antigonish and New Waterford Consolidated Hospital. Less than 10 patients at each facility have tested positive. All patients are being closely monitored and other infection prevention and control measures are being put in place. NSHA will provide a further update when more information is available.
Active Cases, Tests, Vaccination Data
As of today, there are an estimated 6,439 active cases of COVID-19 in Nova Scotia.
On January 3, NSHA’s labs completed 5,472 tests.
As of January 3, 1,792,946 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered. Of those, 794,915 Nova Scotians have received their second dose, and 134,697 eligible Nova Scotians have received a third dose...

Nova Scotia reported 842 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, bringing the estimated active number of COVID-19 infections in the province to 6,645.

There are 498 new cases in the Central Zone, 141 in the Eastern Zone, 121 in the Western Zone, and 82 new cases in the Northern Zone.

During a COVID-19 update Wednesday afternoon, Premier Tim Houston said 45 people are in hospital with the virus; eight of those individuals are in intensive care.

He said the average length of stay in hospital because of COVID-19 is 5.4 days, and the current age range of people in hospital with the virus is 26-98 years old. The premier said 69 per cent of those hospitalized are vaccinated to some degree...

48 hospitalized with COVID-19 in Nova Scotia, with 9 in ICU

Nova Scotia announced 745 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, with 48 people in hospital, including nine in the ICU.

Of those in hospital:

Four (8.3 per cent) have had a third dose of COVID-19 vaccine.
28 (58.3 per cent) have had two doses.
Two (4.2 per cent) are partially vaccinated.
14 (29.2 per cent) are unvaccinated.

Only 10 per cent of Nova Scotians are unvaccinated, according to the province.

The province also said in a news release Thursday that those hospitalized range in age from 26 to 94 years old, with the average being 68. Of the 48 people in hospital, 44 were admitted during the Omicron wave.

Hospitalizations are well below those reported during the spring wave of COVID-19. More than 100 people were in hospital due to the virus at one point in May.

According to the provincial COVID-19 dashboard, about 84 per cent of people hospitalized with COVID-19 from March 15 to Dec. 17 were unvaccinated...

Health officials in Nova Scotia are reporting three additional deaths related to COVID-19 on Monday.

Public health says the deaths involve:

a man in his 60s in the Eastern zone
a man in his 70s in the Northern zone
a man in his 80s in the Central zone

All three individuals contracted COVID-19 during the Omicron wave...

...As of Monday, there are 59 people in hospital in Nova Scotia due to the virus, two of whom are in intensive care.

Since Friday, health officials say there have been 29 people admitted to hospital due to COVID-19 and 19 individuals discharged.

The ages of those in hospital range from 31 to 100 years old, with an average age of 69.

Fifty-five of the 59 people hospitalized were admitted during the Omicron wave...

Nova Scotia is reporting 15 new hospital admissions Tuesday, 16 discharges and one death related to COVID-19.

The province says there are 58 people in hospital, with four in intensive care. Their ages range from 39 to 100 years old, with an average age is 67. Of the 58 in hospital, 56 were admitted during the Omicron wave.

The vaccination status of those in hospital is:

six (10.3 per cent) people have had a third dose of COVID-19 vaccine
34 (58.6 per cent) are fully vaccinated (two doses)
three (5.2 per cent) are partially vaccinated
15 (25.9 per cent) are unvaccinated

60 people hospitalized due to COVID-19 in N.S., including a child under the age of 5

Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston says, as of Wednesday, there are 60 people in hospital due to COVID-19, including a child under the age of five.

Of those in hospital:

five are in intensive care;
the average age is 66; and
58 were admitted during the Omicron variant wave.

Houston says 25 per cent of those in hospital are not vaccinated against COVID-19.

Two additional deaths related to the virus were also reported on Wednesday. No other details have been provided from the province at this time.

To date, there have been 117 deaths in Nova Scotia related to COVID-19...
