Epidemic is about to come to the country, says National folkehelseinstitutt.
Folkehelseinstituttet have developed a scenario based on how the H1N1 virus, the so-called swine Influensaen, have evolved in other countries. This scenario was presented at a press conference today.
These numbers are very uncertain, but we have outlined a scenario that is a worse case scenario, "says Preben Aavitsland from the National folkehelseinstitutt.
Aavitsland says it has been difficult to develop a scenario, because they do not know when Norway will be affected for full, how many people will be infected, or how many waves there will be.
Thousands can be infected
The scenario assumes that 30 percent of the population is sick, and it is on average sick for seven days.
30 percent of the sick come to consult a doctor, 1 percent of the sick will be admitted to hospital and 20 percent of them will need intensive care.
There are currently 369 reported cases in Norway, but Folkehelseinstituttet expect that there are large numbers of untested cases.

In the scenario that folkehelseinstitutt have developed, the worst weeks will be weeks 6 and 7 after pandemics have taken hold in Norway.
In these weeks it is expected 300,000 new cases weekly.

Today we have 300 intesive care beds in Norway, and these needs to be set up to accept 1000 people simultaneously.

Larsen points out that this disease for most people will not be any more dramatic than a normal flu. Folkehelseinstituttet says pandemics can last for three to four months.
