A pig herd in Verdal has been detected swine flu.


- It is proven, it is called pandemic flu H1N1, that is, the

Taking it easy


- The fact that we have proven this again means that the disease has probably
been in pig herds all the time, if there has been new infections in
people again. But we take it more easy now, compared to 2009, says Toubro.


Swine flu results in ordinary flu symptoms such as cough,
sneezing and fever. The symptoms are the same in both animals and humans, but
far there is little risk of any outbreak among people.


- Transmission to humans is only relevant in relation to pig keepers is in
direct contact with animals, says Toubro.


- Keepers who have been in contact with these pigs are not tested in this
first round. It will be considered later on it might be appropriate.

A pig herd in Verdal just on the other hand, Swedish-Norwegian border have been affected by swine flu, it tells Adresseavisen online.
Kirsten Toubro at the Norwegian Food Safety in Sor-Innhered told the newspaper that it is determined that the case of the H1N1 virus. Kirsten Toubro also says that the risk of people being infected only affects those who are in direct contact with pigs.
Now working with the Norwegian Food Safety to investigate whether the infected pigs may have been in contact with other herds.
2009 a mass vaccination in Sweden where a large proportion of the population were vaccinated against H1N1.

Knut R?nningen, the Norwegian Food Safety Authority?s (Mattilsynet) regional head of section, believes the disease has been in the pigs since the outbreak two years ago. He underlines there is no reason for public alarm, however.

?We find that the swine flu virus occurs fairly often and has become more common. 30 to 40 percent of herds we have studied since 2009 have been found to have the virus, but it can be carried by the animal without causing an outbreak,? he explained to Aftenposten.

Those most at risk of catching the virus are only people with direct access to the animals, like pig farmers. There is little chance others will catch the flu.

The pigs have been isolated for a week pending further tests by veterinarians.
