Game and Fish monitoring bird flu outbreak in Oliver County
NORTH DAKOTA (KXNET) — The North Dakota Game and Fish Department is monitoring a bird flu outbreak in Oliver County after several Canada geese were found dead along the Missouri River and Nelson Lake.
Testing of carcasses has indicated that highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) is the likely cause. Dead geese have been reported where large numbers of them gather near open water.

The Game and Fish Department is asking the public to help them monitor the outbreak by reporting any sick or dead birds through the online form at gf.nd.gov/mortality-report.

HPAI can also affect domestic birds. If you own any, Game and Fish recommends keeping visitors to a minimum, washing your hands before and after you touch your bird, changing clothes when leaving your home, and looking for signs of illness. Report sick or dead domestic poultry to the state veterinarian’s office at 701-328-2655.
More information about HPAI can be found at www.fws.gov/avian-influenza.
